Hi my glow plug light comes on for 1 minute after i start the engine on cold.
When engine is warm glow plug light works as normal (on for 2 sec then off)
I scanned and came up with code p0030 H02S heater control circuit 1 bank sensor 1...
Im confused..

Don’t quote me , but that fault code is an O2 sensor fault , the om642 engine eats them regularly. The fault of the light staying on will be a glow plug out or glow plug relay module .

Aye but i dont get it,and i can't find a straight answer..
I dont have an EML on,just a glow plug light on for 60 sec after i start on cold..
Why a glow plug light is showing a 02 sensor fault??
Normally a glow plug light would show a glow plug relay/glow plug code
And a 02 sensor fault would show a orange engine light which it doesn't??
I just have the glow plug light on for 60 sec after i start car on cold with a 02 sensor fault code(P0030)..weird lol

glow plugs are used on emission control too, and perhaps cold start is only where o2 sensor is needed for that... your code reader may mess with the code interpret too or even won't find all. Also glow plug can be malfunctioning, it won't give full 'power' at start.

I had a O2 sensor fault a couple of times on my om642 , it never showed an EML .
I have also had a glow plug failure , that doesn’t show an EML
I have also had Glow plug module isssues , that didn’t show an EML
I replaced the the O2 sensor (£75 Bosch from eBay )
I replaced the glow plugs , £10 each ish
I replaced the GP module £120 ?
Easy fixes over all

To replace 02 sensor is straight forward? DIY? No reprogramming needed?
I replaced my glow plug module just now and fault still there..(glow plug light on for 60 sec after cold start and code P0030 heater control heater bank 1 sensor 1)

I had an O2 sensor fault that remained after I changed the O2 sensor. I could not clear it with my iCarsoft MBII and it was only cleared when I had the engine remapped and they could use their software to clear the code. Probably needs to go on STAR to clear it.

I have the earlier om642 320cdi , it was a straight swap with no issues , I had the O2 sensor fault for over a year with no issues . Can’t answer for your 350cdi later engine .
Have you tested all the glow plugs for a fault ?

Hi,it had a glow plug module fault p670 and a p0030 heater control circuit bank 1.
I replaced the glow plug module (150£), then re- scanned.
The p670 GP module fault is gone.
But the P0030(heater control circuit bsnk 1 ) still on...
*note: my EML its not on.,its the glow plug light that comes on for a bit then goes away

so it’s one (or more) of the glow plugs at fault then ? They don’t last forever and if you don’t know when they were last done and have fitted a new module , best change them all , at least that’s what I did on mine .

Heater fault probably refers to electrical heater inside air duct. I have similar fault in my C219, and also had in W211. Heater element is built of 6(?) elements, which are kind of individual. Most likely one of the has failed, luckily so that it won't draw any current. In SDS measurements I can see full current control of that unit, but evidently it just wont heat. I cannot feel any difference in cold start heating power. At full power, whole system will draw ~100Amps :)

P0030 is the O2 sensor - nothing to do with air duct heaters.

As I said above I could not clear that code after fitting a new O2 sensor as it needed something that could go deeper than an MBII

Replace the 02 sensor i had the fault on mine, jack up the one side of the car, take the panel off the underside and its on the side of the exhuast, unclip the cable, unbolt the sensor and replace, clip cable back on.

If you are not confident taking the glow plugs out ( been in for a long time and the online methods for taking them out do not always work) take it to someone who does them regularly and has the tools incase one breaks taking them out, I used a specialist in bristol, took them out and a broken one out first time.

Stored codes will not shift with a crappy obd2 tool, goto a merc independent and they can clear things for you, replace the 02 sensor as well should you want them to.

Also there are heated and non heated 02 sensors, quick online search....

P0030 MERCEDES-BENZ code description Oxygen Sensors (O2S) or Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) need to reach a minimum operating temperature of 750 degrees F to produce an accurate voltage signal. The faster the heated oxygen sensor reaches that temperature the faster the sensor will start sending an accurate signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM)

Hi,thanks for your reply.
Can you tell me exactly which + where is the sensor bank 1,sensor 1 on my om642 v6 diesel (cls 350 2010).
I toke panels out there's a few over there
And if i need a special tool to remove it?
Many thanks

In the exhaust after the cat - can't miss 2" sensor sticking out of the exhaust. Can be removed with normal spanners - just mind your knuckles as it tends to suddenly break free and lots to graze against - gloves is the answer

Hehe, I just didn't read right, usually these unversal codes and their descriptions are so messed up, I didn't bother to check, just concluded 'heater control' is heater booster... lol, good call
