Paint Costs

Hi all,
I managed to pick up a replacement passenger door and front wing for my W124 coupe this weekend. Both were in fantastic condition and got the pair for £150 which i'm well pleased with, looking forward to the prep work now.

I plan to paint the panels myself and will be getting some quotes tomorrow for the paint, however I don't really know what is reasonable.

I will basically need enough to cover the 2 new panels plus a few other small touch up areas.

Does anyone have any pointers as to what I should be expecting to pay ?

What colour is the car? If its a light metallic forget painting it yourself- even the pros find it difficult to match. Mercs of that age used Glasurit paint so I would go to a wholesaler that supplies that make. Color-Online

Its a non metallic red.
One particular bodyshop I used a couple of years ago for an insurance claim matched the drivers door and wing perfectly.
Hopefully they will be reasonable on cost as presumably they will still have the paint mix on file

Sorry not sure if you mean just for the paint or for actually painting the wings?

just the paint really, if the labour was cheap enough i might be tempted to save myself the hassle but more than likely i'll spray myself

If you have done a bit of spraying yourself before --fine otherwise I would leave it to the pros- they have the best equipment and environment controlled booths. As to paint cost can't help there- just get down to your local car paint wholesaler- tell them the area you want to paint and the type of paint you want to use and they will advise a suitable primer and paint finish. From what I gather you really don't want to be spraying two pack without the proper gear, so it's likely to be acrylic or cellulose you'll be using. Halfords will mix 1/2 a litre from a colour code for £19.99, but the link below is cheaper.

thanks for the advice guys. I have plenty of experience spraying so not concerned about doing myself. my main convern is getting a proper match.

I'll report back with my quotes in case its of use to anyone else
