Panasonic 50" Plasma question

What ever you do you must take out a 5 year Guarantee, any fault with the scanning chips and it is scrap. I do not endorse 5 year service contracts normally but you do need it on this purchase

A good reason to buy from John Lewis.

Far too complicated to go into here, LCD have back light circuits, this part is the number one reason for the picture to go out, though replacement inverter panels are now freely available

If anyone has a problem getting an LCD television fixed I can get them sorted in Hull - had a Toshiba LCD 32" fixed that Toshiba didn't have spares for (one of the companies I work with imports LCD panels and bits) - same goes for laptops with broken screens - did my toshiba for under half the UK price.

I have to go and do something sensible now, why not go online to one of the AV magazine sites or buy a couple of mags.

buying over the web you will always find a cheap price. Firms like John Lewis will always match the price and give you good service, Currys poor service has given me a good living for the last 10 years.

LG is philips, Samsung, Pioneer, JVC, Panosonic are stand alone firms, JVC have always been in the home cinema field, Sumsung has joined this. No problem with any of them.

Dont forget you do need a contrast ratio of 15000/1 and a CDM of at least 1000, if you go below this you will not see anything without drawing the curtains, figures below this are old stock

Don't forget that your nearest big currys will have a huge range to see which you like, and PCworld have them with HD feeds.

The snag with all of the firms that have 100s on show is that they all show silly programs, animation and other, it is not possible to judge anything from them, you need a nature program or a news readers face to see the true picture quality remember too that the brightness level in these showrooms is nothing like your living room

OK, morning of surfing, and it looks to be coming down to this one

Samsung Full-HD PS-50P96FD

Will let you know what happens!;)

True - but our living room has closable blinds... and at least if there's 20 TVs showing the same feed you can judge one against the other.

I'd find it difficult to be upset by any current model Panasonic LCD or Plasma, Pioneer plasma or Samsung LCD. You need to look at LG and Sony before you buy, some like some don't. And as for Hitachi's cheap 1080 plasma, it's not that good...

I always do...better for the blood pressure than having to deal with the likes of Currys/PCWorld/Dixons etc...

I got mine from Empire Direct with a 2 yr guarantee, it failed 23 mths in and was a real pain to get fixed. Although I've bought other things from them since (fridge, washer) I'll be heading to John Lewis for a TV at replacement time.

Sony always make a good product as do LG, LG and Philips merged to produce plasma good technology.
And yes, some you like and some you do not, I am always amazed at what some folk put up with

Would echo the comments about John Lewis. They did price match for me & their service has been superb (5 year warranty):) Peace of mind is priceless!
