A while ago I bought a 42" Panasonic plasma TV. Everything worked fine bit now I cannot get Freeview. I get a message -Astra 2 satelite not found-check aerial and connections. I have done this and they seem ok. Has anyone any idea what could be wrong?

Where are you exactly in NI?

Do you mean Freesat or freeview, sat uses a dish. and view uses your aerial?

YOU MEAN FREESAT if you are referring to a satellite dish system. There are several things that might have gone wrong. First the dish alignment has gone off. The adjustment is extremely fine-doesn't take much to upset it. second the LNB-the little detector/amplifier unit at the focus of the dish has gone faulty- its an active/powered device-it gets its power supplied via the dish cable from the tuner in the TV set. They are exposed to the weather and sometimes water can get in to play havoc with the electronics. third something has come between your dish and the satellite-its a line of sight system This can happen for example as a large tree comes into leaf in summer. fourth the TV SET satellite tuner has gone faulty. If it has you have the option of buying/borrowing a cheap Freesat set top box plugging your dish into that and feeding your tv via a scart or hdmi cable instead. If the dish or LNB is off then this won't work of course but at least its a way of eliminating one problem. Any satellite dish installer or TV specialist could do this for you.

I live just outside Portadown. Have you a reason for asking?

When I had that message - it was water in the wires at a join - replaced the join with new weather proof join and away you go (well the engineer did)..:D

Perhaps the satellite has fallen out of orbit

Only a few millions to replace .
