Just got back,God iam glad i got home,......Before i mention what happened,
make sure you don't make the same mistake. Here goes - parked at the parking bay, mrs went in for the shopping, leaving me and son (asleep),and iam totally knackered.About half hour later she got back with the trolley,Told her to sit in and i will load the boot, which i did,as i was returning the trolley and heading back to the car, i noticed some sort of liquid under the car (a slight reflection of light), quickly got under the car to have a look, seemed very slippery/oilly.Opened the bonet, but too dark to see anything!.,rushed in
asda to buy a torch,Blady hell, nobody knows if they sell torches, finally found it,now looking for batteries, picked the first one that came in hand, went straight out and looked in the bonet, thinking is it oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, really couldnt tell,as it was clean, but sort of oily and had a smell to it, it couldn't have been gearbox oil,as the place of the liquid was in the front around the driver side of the wheels, looked everywhere, started the engine and looked again, but still couldn't find anything (btw-the amount of liquid was quite a bit, so if it was from my car, then it must have been pouring out). I was just too tired to keep cheking.Thankfully i got back home,
iam just praying this was not from my car, will know tommorrow, ill keep you posted.

The reason iam sharing this with you is: Next time you park anywhere, whether at a supermarket, shopping centre,etc- try to have a look under the car before you set off, this could bring up panic for something that
might not even be your car, and it makes it worse if you are tired.
At least if there is any sort of liquid you will know that is not your car.

Just realised - I hope i havent posted this in the wrong place, apologies if its wrong!!

I think you posted in the right section so no worries :)

Erm, did you have the A/C running when you were waiting in the car with your lad? Bear in mind that a normally functioning a/c system will produce bucket loads of water (the system de-humidifies the air before it enters the cabin) that is usually expelled underneath the car. You can get quite a pool in a short space of time when parked up.

No A/C (w124 300d 1988), and it definately wasn't water, seemed like oil,but very clean, iam going out for five minutes will have a look under the car to see if any leaks(fingures crossed)

Ahh, I was just thinking of possible causes. :( If it was very clean oil, then I would take a guess at the auto gearbox oil.

Hopefully, as you suggest, you parked over someone else's wet patch, if you pardon the expression. :o

Did you sniff it? Might have been something someone dropped whilst loading, a bottle of veg oil/baby oil or something of that ilk. Just a thought.

Any marks on where you park the car normally. If no, then as Steve said "someone elses wet patch"

Found the same oily water thing on my drive after it had been serviced, they replaced something on the sump. It leaked into the underside trays, only noticed it when it was on an angle when the stuff run out of the trays. Hopefully yours (if its your car leaking)is nothing seroius. Did you recently have the car serviced?

I have to say - anytime I park anywhere I check the space first for any patches of oil, etc, then drive into teh space and park.

Then when I reverse out I check again for any 'new' patches.

Blimey with a start like that I thought this was going to be a car-jacking story.

Sorry for the disappointment - But when you are so tired got a 3 yr old who is also sleepy, and have no choice but to go to buy some stuff which have to get-trust me the feeling is not good when something like this happens.

Oh well, i checked this morning and luckily there were no signs of any leaks,
drove the car for school run and parked up, hour later checked again, and thankfully no leaks, i think it wasnt my car ( i don't want to get too confident, knowing my luck-will keep an eye and see).
For those who replied, thanks for your advise.,Just don't make the same mistake.

try to be positive all the time I know its hard but if it had been your car you would have been able to put it right, life's not that bad surely

Thanks Mark.t - You are right- think positive, drove again today, and thank god, so far no signs of leaks, must have been another persons mess.
