PARIS TO BAN RENTAL E-SCOOTERS

Although here in the North Norfolk Coast Outback, we don't suffer these. In Norwich there have been numerous accidents with these Bxxxxxy Things.
I do hear that in London, they want to use, and I am not joking "Cycle vans" for deliveries!

Had them for a couple of years here in Cambridge. DHL mainly.

We also have fully automated delivery robots from Coop delivering goods. Always funny watching them waiting to cross the road.

I have seen the Coop Robots on You tube, very funny when they ask for help to cross. I used to go to Cambridge regularly doing account work for the Railways, and the amount of cycles that were at the station was dumb founding!.

Had the 3 year old boy at the local park.

Couple of girls they musn't even been 10 years old whizzing around the park on these things. Absolute ridiculous. Outright ban required everywhere

I thought this was an enlightened comment. The vast majority of people hiring these scooters would not have otherwise been traveling by car.

The vote has also focused attention on the environmental record of e-scooters amid a debate about whether they help reduce emissions, given that in most cases they replace a journey that would previously have been made on foot or in public transport.

I doubt we need to worry about these things long term because unless heavily subsidised, they will all eventually fail financially for the obvious reasons of theft and vandalism.

Just to muddy the water on this debate, I’d point out two things:

That, as far as I’m aware, and I may be wrong, all of these e-scooter rental things have yet to make a profit.

Like Tesla, Deliveroo and Uber, “that’s not how these tech businesses work.”

Privately owned e-scooters are cheap and profitable for the manufacturer. They’re the things you’ll see all over the world but not in Paris.

In the UK, they reckon that it’s just a mere million privately owned e-scooters currently in (illegal) use.

Oooh look ! Over there ! What’s that?

Banning is too good for them. Owners should be beaten with the damn things and made to publicly acknowledge their idiocy for riding them!😉🤣

I’m not sure how the hooded drug dealers will get their products around the city to the middle classes now . ;)

Good! Stupid idea to have them anyway. Can't hear them and driven/ridden by numpties, very dangerous. If cyclists have to wear safety helmets why not the scooterists?

Cyclists don't have to wear helmets!!! I dont!

I’m in a minority then. There’s been a huge increase in the use of scooters and bikes in London and I think it’s a good thing. Scooters are no more dangerous than bikes, which are often ridden without lights in the dark (I commute on a m/cycle and see it all the time).

Public transport is overcrowded in London so anything to ease that and cut congestion is a good thing. We need a mixture of solutions.

"We" are in the majority in the real world, but not on here.

Anything that reduces the number of motors out there and the cost of commuting has to be a good thing.

300 million e-scooters in China alone has to be good news for climate control targets, if nothing else.

Ssme problem as with EV's then.
Helmets? Only mandatory for motorcyclists, and then only because they're usually doing twice the speed limit in town.

The 'vote' to ban them in Paris was a non legally binding referendum , shame that . The 3 companies that run them in Paris would appear to be the same companies that run them in London.

The 'official' hire ones are supposed to be the benchmark for pushing the agenda of these things forward as it's impossible to get any useful info on the countless illegal (every single other one in the UK , unless used solely on private property) ones.

So what hope for a 'transport 'system (child's toy) that requires a credit card , phone number , tracked by GPS and that is being touted by all sorts of politicians as THE answer when it fails so spectacularly pretty much everywhere. ?

Driving in Paris is bad enough as it is . Fair play to the Parisiennes .

Viva la revolution !

Paris haven't banned private e-scooters only the rental scheme ones, probably because the rental scooters are left lying around all over the place and cluttering up the pavements. A 35 euro fine had failed to have much impact on the way scooters were parked on the pavements which says something about the rental clientele.

France seems more relaxed about allowing e-scooter use on normal roads and it seems they will continue to be used on the roads. They have always been relaxed about mopeds which 14 year olds can ride without a licence. I'm not sure about insurance, I think it's a requirement even for e-scooters which seems a good thing. I struggle to see how e-scooters can be safe on the roads and think they should use dedicated cycle paths but France is conducting the experiment on the roads so we will see how that works out.

Paris residents vote to ban rental e-scooters | Move Electric.
