They've just started behaving oddly, both front and rear. warning sound and then turning themselves off on the switch by the gear stick, both sets of reds showing without the ambers or not working at all - by very careful testing. But then most infuriatingly working perfectly at other times - i doubt its the sensors as is both front and rear. Would anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
It sounds like you have an intermittently failing sensor, one sensor failing can take both front and rear sensors down.

really? ok I can get my head round that - would you have any idea as to the best way to ascertain which it will be as there are 10 in total, or is it just unplug each in turn?. If one is unplugged will it take the lot down too? BTW cheers for the input Andy

Hi
The problem with using a diagnostic on the parking sensors they read the sensors and test the system at that moment in time so if you have an intermittent fault then the system needs to have the fault at the time of scanning.
I had a similar intermittent fault on my AMG with the sensors, I had both bumpers re-painted all the paint on the sensors stripped of and only a dust coating of color on the sensor refitted with new rubber sealing washers and they all worked.
I would carefully look at the condition of the paint on you're sensors and if any signs of corrosion under the paint or inconsistencies in the paint finish of the sensors then remove clean and repaint refit with new rubber sealing washer.
You can also test with a multimeter though I have never used that method

cheers for that Andy - very much appreciated - I'm gonna get my avo out!
