Hi folks

Just had the car back from the garage one of the things I had replaced was the a front parking sensor but I have just noticed its not color coded !
Anyone know if a color coded one could have been bought from the main dealer ?

Hi, they come in virgin plastic and should be sprayed to match before fitting.

Sounds like a botch job!

:( thats what i thought ill need to have a chat with the garage on monday

Had a word with the garage and it seems they dont do bodywork at all no spray paint.. Ill need to take the sensor into merc bodyshop but they said it will invaildate the warrenty on the sensor if its painted .. if the paints too thick it will go off ! .. could someone tell me how easy is it to remove the sensor as merc want £55 to remove and fit it..

Also could i not just get one of them touchup pens and just color it in ?
Cheers

Easy - remove the plastic strip on the bumper (that has chrome strip inserts) - this can carefully be removed with a screw driver with a bit of cloth on the end so no scratches. Once you have done this then you un-plug the wire connected to the sensor and pop the sensor out of the bumper strip insert.

Personally, I think that the garage is talking rubbish about invalidating the warranty as IF they knew what they were doing then they would easily have painted the sensor for you! No doubt that Stealership will sub contract the work out anyway unless they have their own in house bodyshop which would not be any better than a MB approved specialist repairer!!

At end of the day you paid the garage to restore your car back to its original condition therefore this should mean the garage sorting this PTS issue out for you!

If your gona do a DIY paint job of the PTS then you will need a spray paint can from MB and yes is can be done and then as spray can of lacquer.

You will not be able to do a decent job at all with touch up sticks/pens!

Agreed. I got a can of colour and a can of lacquer from MB and did mine with three light coats of each. They work fine.

Any ideas on the cost of the cans? Best to remove the sensor first to spray it?

The garage where i got the work done did aload of other stuff all mechanical they dont do bodywork at all. It was a merc specialist
They put in a front parking sensor without the rubber seal.. Which i noticed the other day im not too pleased as they have binned the old sensor with the seal and now ive gotta get another

Another quick question while on this subject mines is a classic so i dont have the color coded door handles would it be possible to do the same on these? remove and then spray paint them.. Also im after the front and back bumper strips with the holes for parking sensors already painted .. does anyone know of a place that will do that for me.. as the maindealer will charge a fair amount.. they wanted £75 to take out a sensor and spray it !!

The cans were about £10 for the two, and I'd definitely take the sensor out to spray it. Drill a hole in a piece of card, mount the sensor in the card, and spray.

Mercedes supply the sensors unpainted, and for warranty jobs pay for the sensor AND a can of paint so the technician can paint it himself.

Rather than paint the handles (on newer cars the Avantgarde and Elegance have a chrome srip in too) have a look at buying the proper ones factory prepainted, they aren't too bad at around £35 - £40 a door.

Are you sure? I thought they were a bit cheaper than that :)

I just had a proper look,

Fr Door Handles £29.32 Ea.
Fr Door Handle Finishers (The bit that stays put) £10.86 Ea.

Rr Door Handles £21.38 Ea.
Rr Door Handle Finishers £10.86 Ea.

+VAT as well.

On a silver car it'll make the difference, obviously not so much on a darker car !
