Parking Sensor Failure 2 Red lights

I have got so used to not using the sensors now on my R-class but i want to fix the issue, My indie says the diagnostic points to the controller which I am not convinced. the sensors are a single point of failure so I will do the click test and see which ones are knackered and get them replaced. Although the access on the front and rear is a massive ball ache to do the swap outs.

I have an iCarsoft MBii that shows the data from each individual sensor for testing.
I am happy to let you borrow it to help diagnose the issue.
All I ask is you pay for return postage (RM Special delivery).

Tony

i have this same problem, i replaced all the front sensors then it worked fine for a couple of days and now it's started again.

Getting very frustrating now

did you find the cause in the end?

Check also the electronic module that manage the parktronic. Sometimes you have just to clean it with a specific spray for eletronic circuit. It could be just oxidation...

One sensor out will often disable the whole system.

But three or four on ebay for around a tenner each and "disgnose by substitution".

Or even easier, borrow/buy a Plug-in ODB2 diagnostic box which wil point to the actual failure.

There was only one failure on mine, but the whole system refused to work.

taking off the bumpers was not difficult, but time consuiming. Realistically, it also needs 2 people to do the actual removal and replacement.

I had the same issue with my GLA 250. After many trial and error, Mercedes Benz workshop discovered that it's the number plate holder. It was for an E Class. After fitting the correct one, everything is working fine.

I had the same on my CLS :)

Parking Sensors Display failure

I have MB Viano's etc for work. Lots of mileage, lots of problems! Red lights on the parking sensors is a great excuse for drivers to crash it seems so I have invested in fixing this issue!
First the looms (wiring harnesses) in these MBs are usually trash. Use a diagnostic computer to check if the sensors are measuring correct distances. Looms are the weak link in mercedes. Don't try to repair MB wires, not worth it. If that's ok your problem is likely water ingress in the rear interior roof sensor display. The good news is these are cheap to buy off eBay & very easy to fit. It will ether work or not no diagnostic required. The E class shares lots of parts & electric with Viano & Vito.
Sometimes the fuse box under the bonnet can give issues but that's unusual. Rubbish wires corroding of water from these leaky bodies is nearly always the cause of the problems.
Hope that helps,

Quick fixs

I have had this for a couple of days if you take the plastic inner arch out from the drivers side you will find the connection plug pull apart and put back together this connection sometimes gets dry mine now works fine no need for MB workshop money spent £0

Hello

My new GLE bought the brand new in April. Noted about three months ago that front park sensors, when the car first started just the two red lights come on, beep and turn off the parking system, and work once I have switched off and on. I thought it was me parking front first up, near garage door, it was intermittent. Recently I have reversed car onto the drive and the last couple of weeks, again intermittent problems, get two red lights on front sensor, loud beeps and stops working until i turn off the engine and start.

Should I book a visit to MB as I hate waiting around. Btw, the car sensor are clean, I'm the only driver and no damage is noted to the sensors.

Thanks

Parking sensor two red lights

For almost two months my W215 parking sensors haven't worked. Two two red indicators stay on and there's a continuous beep for a few seconds before the whole pyren shuts down.

By chance I was charging my battery with a CTEK charger and noticed a unconnected plug near the battery and the rear light cluster. .
After plugging it back in . .hey Presto.

It's been a nightmare trying the park the 5m monster into tight spaces.

I hope you guys double check your connector as it could be as simple as that. It's a push-in type plug and could pull out with replacing the battery.

Hi I have same problem with my ml which iv just bought garage say it's coz it has tow bar fitted but I'm not convinced so they have booked it in to be checked anyone got any advice thanks

Surely the towbar can only have a couple of bolts holding it n?

Must be quicker to take it of as a diagnostic, rather than hanging around at the dealer....

Alternatively, get a mid-market Diagnostic adapter for about £70 on ebay and check the distances "seen" by each sensor.

A reasonably comprehensive scanner, say, an Autocom CDP Pro, will pay for itself several times over.

If you've just boought the ML, this should be your second purchase after wider tyres!

I have a similar problem with the parking sensors on my 2003 W163. OBD diags indicate a faulty sensor, which was duly changed, but sadly didn't fix the problem. So next step is to check wiring and connections to the parking sensor control box.

Having no luck finding out where the control box is physically located in the car in spite of web searching and eyeballing the car. Could be tucked away anywhere.

Can anybody point me to where the controller lives.

Also have a tow bar and it's never effected the sensors.

Thanks

Hi cheese69, did you find where the control unit lives. I have similar probs with my 2002 ML, I have a diagnostic tool that says all 6 front sensors are faulty, the actual readings all show 255 and don't change. I have checked loom and connector and can see no physical faults, so now want to check control module, but cannot find it.

I had this problem occasionally on my previous W212 E63. I never knew what caused it. Turning everything off and restarting the car usually fixed it (in the short term anyway).

Hi all,
Newby jumping on an old post, yet continuing interest I see.
I have the same problem 4 red lights with shut down after 20 seconds. My garage found a fault code '924E24' which according to the tool they used is a front left inner sensor fault.
I bought one off eBay for approximately £20 and I intend to fit it myself over the next couple of days. My garage wanted over £300 for this work which included a new rubber gasket, spraying, cost of part and then fitting... I'll report back with photos if anyone is interested!:)

I had a failed second left front sensor, with the same symptoms as above, etc.

Bought one on Amazon, from SchlüsselKauf in Germany, for £12.20.
Couldn't tell the difference between this one and the OEM - all the marking were the same, other than the Mercedes star.
Bumper out, fitted the sensor, cleared stored error codes - no complications.
That was eight months ago - still perfect.

PS I did paint it myself though - it was primed

Uh oh, mine has just started doing this on the front sensors. It started the day it snowed, so I wonder if lots of water has got to a bad sensor wire?

It then starts working again. As I parked up, it was ok.
