Has anyone tried to fit a parking sensor system on the back of their car, if so which are the best sort to buy?

I saw one on special at Eurocarparts today and it got me thinking...

Many Thanks

I just fitted a set to mine last week. Got the genuine MB parktronic, very well made kit and easy enough to install. The sensors are very accurate and dont look too out of place in the bumper, helps with the car being black too.

The scariest bit was drilling 4 x 32mm holes in the bumper!!

Not knowing which it is for then it comes down to this .........

- front or rear or both
- CANBUS type (as E and C versions are not interchangeable in the current versions)
- cost of CANBUS related parts like dashboard switch.

The single switch is not sold in the new versions. It replaces the entire switch bank to include parktronic on the retrofit.

did you install the colour diagram things in the interior too?

pics to see what you did would be great.

How much was the kit?

I think what Jimmy installed was the aftermarket version of Parktronic, called "Quikpark" . . . different display, and no CANBUS involvement ! Stil an MB OEM item though.

I'm sure pictures will be posted in due course eh' Jimmy ;)

I got myself all genuine MB parts for parktronic all around but haven't managed to get beyond the sensor install stage...no time...

greetingz,

I stand corrected, mine is the £400 MB accessory that they call Quickparc. It consists of 4 bumper mounted sensors, a control mudule and a combined buzzer/LED display.

The LED display is a series of green, yellow and red LED's and a bleeper that warns you how close you are to an obstacle. I mounted this to the NS rear quarter panel, visible from the RVM or when looking over your shoulder. There are two wires to connect, an earth and a live feed from one of the reversing lights.

I have tested the sensors with a wall, wooden gate, another car and a skip! It appears to be very accurate, the instructions give the distances that the lights light up, furthest away is 1.5M, continuous beep is at 30cm. This is perfect for parking.

I will take some pictures, meant to do a HOWTO but I tend to just get stuck in and want to get the job finished.

Seem to remember it looks something like this . . . . right ?

What about the aftermarket sensors like the Taurus? it is an adhesive strip that attaches across the length of the bumper (on the inside) which gets round having to drill holes in your bumper.

anyone tried it??

Not sure if it's the same thing but a bloke in the village had a strip one fitted to his Voyager, it's some sort of metal detector thing. Guess what?

He reversed into a tree. :D

Honestly, he did!

I bought a Taurus unit, then discovered that it does not suit a ML bumper. I suspect it might be the same with other MB bumpers. Taurus unit was changed to a Veba one which I have never got round to fitting - I would sell it cheap to anyone interested. It would suit a black car - instructions about painting it are a bit worrying - light coat of paint and non metallic etc !

Would you need to paint it if the car was black ???

I have an ML in black so I might well be interested.

This product looks interesting as there is no drilling of the bumper or apparent mod done to the car.

Has anyone an opinion on this product?

I saw one advertised at www.eurocarparts.co.uk but I can't get the webpage to come up at the mo, may be my machine being silly.

gIzzE - the Veba kit would suit your black ML but for the best match, a light coat of clear laquer (aerosol can job) would let it blend in better. £50 and it is your's; it cost me over £ 80.

I am seriously thinking of attaching a rear camera to the inside of the bumper and connecting that loom to the DVD option on the COMAND.

All problems aside ..... you can even attach a source controller in the glove box to switch between cameras and the actual DVD.

Im thinking about a mutliplexer for 4 video cameras at once. all corners.

I don't think it is going to do what I need to be honest, I need somthing that lets me know when I have 3-6" left and the veba gives a single tone as it gets to 45cm (18") I am alright up to then, it is afterwards when I **** my car ;)

Thanks for the offer though.
