Where is a good place in London to get a parking sensor fitted? How much should it cost more or less? I'd like to get something that is either invisible (are the ones that are completely invisible any good? They hide under the bumper and work differently to "normal" sensors I hear) or ones that are completely colour-coded to the bodywork.

Thanks,

Parking Sensors

Hi- be careful with the 'invisible' after market sensors. On a lot of MB models, they cannot be fitted because of the metal bar behind the plastic part of the bumper. Have you checked if MB do an retro fit kit for your car? If not, a good MB garage should be able to source original parts and fit it without too much trouble. Many of the after market sensors cannot be successfully colour coded - they recommend one thin coat only which is not much good with metallic colours which need base coat and lacquer.

My bro fit one of the invisible ones to his CLK which works on some magnetic field principle, and doesn't work in the rain (well it does, it detects the rain, and reports that as an object) so when you perhaps need it the most in poor visibility and when you are less likely to open a window or get out of the car to check how much space is left in a tight gap, it doesn't work.

There are some 'invisible' ones which you can fit onto your number plate... but not so invisible to me!

Not sure how well these work.

The colour coded one in the bumpers are OK. I've seen some on an Audi, blended in as well as factory fit ones, don't notice any difference. HOWEVER on the implementation I saw, it had an ugly feedback sensor near the rear view mirror. (I think it was to show distance)

it's deffo worth looking at your dealer for this. We had sensors fitted onto the Voyager, aftermarket, done by the dealer - £150 :bannana: They're the real thing, properly colour matched and are covered by guarantee should anything go wrong. They work in the rain :D and are low enough to detect anything that might just tale off the underneath of the rear end. Problem with number plate fit's is they're that bit higher and might not catch all you need them to.

If access to retrofit is difficult and you do risk making a mess of your bumper so imho - it's worth getting the dealer or a specialist/independent to do it for you unless you are competent yourself and have the right fitting gear. I've seen some horrendous DIY jobs as I'm sure we all have.

Ok, quote from my local mercedes dealer - £500 to supply and fit OEM rear parking sensors (not even retrofit Parktronic, but just some other system). Anyone got any idea where to get this done (preferably in the London area) at a more reasonable rate? :-)

We had Laserline fitted on the W203 at a place in NW London. We found Laserline looks better than Cobra Parkmaster which this guy also fits on some cars.

This place is frequently recommended by one of the London MB dealers to fit aftermarket rear sensors. The price we paid is half (all in to match your car colour) of what you quoted above. PM me if you are interested.

PS. We are not in anyway linked to the company; just a customer.

i bought a set of 4 sensors from ebay for £20 or so...... fitted them myself to my old Mondeo. Worked ok..... scary drilling the bumper but once fitted (and i sprayed them myself colourcoded) they looks perfect.

Thats quite steep - it cost £500 to factory fit entire front/rear PTS to my W203...

Parktronic

It's costing me £590 for Mercedes to fit both front and rear Parktronic (8 sensors in total) and that includes the visual display on the front dash and the back (top of rear window). Pretty damn cool it is.

Is that retro-fitted Parktronic (=Quickparc) or have you just ordered a new car?
