The CLS 63 needs a replacement Central Gateway unit, and there are no new ones in the country. Could some kind soul with EPC please find me the part number so I can look in the usual places? The VIN is WDD218 9742A 107606.

More info which might help; it could be A 212 900 82 28; it is for the (facelift) 2017 W218.

It could also be A2125403145, which is I think for the pre-facelift W212.

Thank you very much. Jeeeez, it's complicated :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::eek:. I owe you many many beers just for looking...

I hesitate to ask further, but although mine is indeed an 804 build, it doesn't have Distronic, let alone Distronic Plus. Does this make a difference?

And one further thing, if I may. I believe the unit is plug 'n play, so a used one, once set up for the car's actual equipment spec, will be fine. Am I right?

Thank you once again.

None of the parts listed previously resolve to that VIN #.

Is it in the co drivers are, ..#54...#62.. on Parts Information?

Thank you very much for your time too; it's complicated, innit...

A2129004724 is visually identical to those I gave, which I found on eBay, so I'm inclined to think it's a version of the right part, but as I said, my car doesn't have Distronic.

More than that I can't say; I'm a decent amateur spanner-wielder, but that's all, so this whole thing is way outside my comfort zone. My brain hurts, Brian...

I'd be fine with one of your Imps.

I can post the datacard, if that would help.

A2129004724 is listed only for a 207 & 212.
It's listed in 54 Electrical Equipment, 62 Electrical Compartment in Front Passenger Footwell.

I can get the datacard from the VIN but the part does not come up, very strange if it's the part you have!

the 212 and 218 share the same chassis / parts so I would not be surprised, that there will be some part codes crossover. In terms of coding, I am not 100% but I would expect some coding involved.

If I could get at it, I could obtain the part number. I can't b***y well find it....

I've had a look behind the carpet at the front of the front passenger footwell; there's a large bracket that attaches to the bulkhead, with three ECUs between bracket and bulkhead - Parktronic, Airmatic and AMG Drive Unit. There's nothing behind the console carpet there either.

I've had a look behind the driver's side footwell carpet; nothing there. Where IS the little barsteward, and how do I get at it?

That ties up with what I find on Parts Info. for your VIN # though. ;)

Indeed it does. The plot thickens - maybe...

So you found no Central Gateway listed against my VIN? Not like MB to make a mistake like that, I'd have said.

I've also seen mention on MB World that on the 212, the Central Gateway is integrated with the front SAM, but it wasn't clear whether that was on a facelift or pre-facelift. Is it possible that the parts man at the main dealer quoted me for a new front SAM, not just a Central Gateway, and omitted to mention that small detail?

Did you find any listing for a separate Central Gateway at all against my VIN? If not, that explanation would fit all the known facts, including that I can't find the Central Gateway where it should be, if there should be one to be found at all.

Mine is an 804 build; the facelift came in for the 2015 MY.

I need a replacement because I have a shedload of fault codes, nearly all related to the Central Gateway. The iCarsoft scans both the Central Gateway and the Front SAM, but I don't think that means they have to be physically separate.

The first part number I gave - A2129008228 - is for a 2017 CLS63, and is specifically stated to be the Central Gateway. The 2017 is definitely a facelift, which would also fit with it being the pre-facelift that has the integrated unit.

Item 10 in the diagram I definitely have; I've seen it, and the part number is correct. That suggests I don't have item 120, which is shaded pink, and not on the list, whereas item 10 is on the list, and not in pink.

Once I can confirm I have the integrated unit, where do I find the front SAM? Is it under the black plastic cover at the rear of the engine bay on the driver's side?

Correct, is actually integrated with the fuse box. Also have you tried to to contact MB of Farnborough, as Tim Morgan in the parts department is always super helpful?

Thank you very much for that; now I know what I need, could I ask you to be so kind as to find me the part number for the front SAM, please?

A2129009210 Front SAM with Relay & Fuse [Replaced by]
A2129003021 > A2129007224 > A2129004325 > A2129009325

A2129007519 > A2129005524 Self Levelling
A1729006008 > A1729002809 UCI
A0009009802 > A0009009903 Drive Unit Complete

Thank you very much.

One final question: I know the central gateway section will need coding to the car, but do you know whether the front SAM unit is also coded to the car, or will a used one be plug and play?

Of course it's all coded...Bugger bugger bugger...

Imagine the day when you need to be coded to drive the car.....:)
