Hi guys i'm wondering if anyone could help me in obtaining the part-number for my differential. If you need the chassis number i'll give it to you just ask me in pm.

I phoned mercedes brentford and the idiot at the other end told me that they have a policy thats been in place for '4-5 years' as he called it, not to give out part numbers. Complete plonker.

1998 C230 Kompressor Manual 5-speed transmission, M111.975 engine. 722.6 gearbox (i think).

I'd really appreciate help with this fellas! cheers

Rear Axel housing with differential = Part A202 350 42 14

Footnote 697. This part is only or also supplied as reconditioned part.

I thought you changed your diff last year??

He did, but it was slightly noisy iirc.

I guess all those 0-60 supersprints have taken their toll....;)

Yea i changed it last year but the dronsfields '62000 miles' differential has started rumbling/vibrating at higher speeds and Olly noticed it was quite loud when doing my service. so its going to go bang pretty soon. And to be honest i dont drive my car really hard, its hard to do so on my normal work route... i maybe stretch its legs in the weekends if i get the chance...

I did find one on Ebay but i'm not sure if this one will fit as the breaker cant get me the part number.... It would be great if it did fit because its more of an honest mileage and its cheap!

Can anyone please help me out with this one?

I mean i'd logically think it would, its probably the same ratio, same drivetrain and same engine... but i dont want to guess at something like this...

Almost certainly the same. There are only a few MB diff casings, generally with the driveshaft bearings recessed into the main casing or held in seperate, bolt on enclosures.

The ratio for a manual is 1:3.46 and for an auto 1:3.27.

You could try fitting new bearings to your existing diff.

Methinks that will be ok Adam (the one on ebay)

PS. Shauns has started to whine on overrun.
