Hi all, I have a 320d and the power assisted steering system also looks after the rear shock absorbers. The pipe feeding the back suspension is routed through and needs a full replacement. Has anyone had this done, know of anyone who could do it, and, an approximate price for doing the work? Thank you, best wishes. Alan

What car is this for? Where are you based?

It sounds like a S210 E320 cdi, not a BMW 3 series.

Those pipes to the SLS valve are a pain to replace properly as the sub frame needs to be dropped, at a guess that'll be 5 or 6 hours labour. I keep mine waxoyled.

Apologies

Sorry guys, it has been a while replying. First time on the site and I am still not sure how to use it. The site doesn't let you know if anyone has replied and I couldn't find it again. Anyway Nick, the car is a Merc 320d estate and I live in north Wales.

A111r, I think you're right, does the petrol tank or anything else need to come off? A local garage suggests blanking the power steering pipes and putting traditional shockers at the rear. Any thoughts?

A 320d is a BMW...you car is an E320 cdi.

Don't listen to the local garage. It is very unlikely all the pipes have to be replaced. When the one over the back axle on my car burst, it cost £60 to have it replaced, including the fluid.

Yes, they're a bunch of idiots

Just replace the SLS pipes. Find a local MB specialist who knows what they're doing

It's nothing to do with the power steering. They do share a common pump housing, but they are separate systems
