On going issue...
Pedal and steering vibrating/shaking when applying brake. If i lightly apply brake i can feel the pedal pulsating.
I have tried braking from 60mph to attempt to remove any deposits from discs/pads (over the past few months!) but yesterday driving the car after a while the shaking/vibrating was very bad.

I will be looking to replace the front discs and pads to see if this resolves the issue.

Question:

With the front wheels off the ground, should the wheels move freely? I noticed that there is some resistance, could this be signs of a sticking caliper?

It sounds like you have sticking slider/s on the caliper/s.

Is this based on my comment "With the front wheels off the ground, should the wheels move freely? I noticed that there is some resistance, could this be signs of a sticking caliper?"

So assuming that the discs are now "warped" due to sticky calliper?

Should the wheels spin freely when off the ground?

Last ting i want to do is to replace he discs and pads and the problem returns later down the line!

Take it to a garage you trust and stop guessing.

It could be the caliper, it could be discs, it could be worn suspension bushes in the control arms or it could be a combination of things.

well in that case we might as well close all forums down!

I dont "trust" the garages i have used in the past - hence why i am asking questions on here.

I asked a simple question > With the front wheels off the ground, should the wheels move freely? Should i not ask simple questions on here or go to a garage for that aswell.

Stop being dramatic.

You have been given good advice.

As stated your symptoms could be down to a number of factors hence getting a professional opinion rather than have people on line guess.

There should be minimal friction to the wheels rotating when jacked up. There may well be a little drag from the pads, this tends to go when driving.

You seem fairly inexperienced in terms of cars (not a criticism before you get wound up again!) hence the recommendation that you use a garage.

Do you have an MB specialist near you?

Pedal pulsing = warped discs, higher the speed will give more judder. With wheels of the ground , when spinning, does it only get tight in a certain spot = worped discs as well. Also check all suspension joints with a bar. Best of luck.

Friction of the wheel is most likely brakes.
Sticking sliders, sticking pistons, or if warped discs you would feel tight spot/s.
Until you strip the calipers you won't know.

Vibrations can v well be suspension components, but as you have wheel friction 'I guess' you have a brake issue.

With the calipers off you may well find the dust seals are split and have allowed ingress. It doesn't take long in winter to rust up. I would price up calipers before I start to know where to source them.

Rear calipers are worth a check. The problem feels like it's coming from the front brakes, pedal vibrates, steering wheel vibrates only when applying the brake pedal, all the mercs I've had have suffered this problem and it always becomes apparent during or after the colder months. Rear calipers, discs, pads and shoes is always my fix.
