hi guys just wanted to know if this is normal dropped wife off this morning. And while i was waiting in car park I decided to see if it redlines in a stationary position so in park mode. With handbrake on i floored it to my surprise the rev counter only went up to 2.5k is this normal.

yes normal, safety feature to prevent engine damage.
 
If you tried to do that with the old ZF 4 speed box you probably burn the clutch bands. big repair bill.

Also normal safety feature to stop people having the sh*t scared out of them in a car park.

Why would you want to try this?

With no load on the engine the stresses on the con rods etc are hugely amplified.

Not so on a four stroke. The forces exerted during upward gas exchange (exhaust) strokes are the same irrespective of load.
 
Thanks guys though there was something wrong with car.
 
Did the same when I first bought my clk. Wanted to hear it at max revs. Only revved to about 4.5k before hitting a limiter.
