Car
Mine: BMW X4 2.0d M-Sport (Red) Hers: BMW X1 2.0d M-Sport (Black) Sorry about that...
As I was exiting a roundabout, I spotted a pedestrian about to step off the kerb. Mindful of the new Highway Code, I stopped my car, just as he leapt back onto the kerb. I remained stationary, and beckoned him across.

My reward? A mouthful of abuse. "We had two legs before we had four wheels, you ......"

Lovely!

You've met him as well then
Stay safe

Err.. the Highway Code says you shouldn't do that...... for the pedestrians' own safety (and for you to avoid prosecution.....).

Personally I prefer a subtle eyebrow gesture that leaves room to plausible deniability :D

Don't worry, I won't be doing it again!

Unfortunately it does appear that the civil servants who write the highway code may not be drivers.I say that as pedestrians who do not drive may not read the publication and do not realise they are the senior road user.
I would also mention that many drivers have not read the latest version of the HC.

Amazing how many entitled types there are out there, I know the rules have changed but it doesn't mean the, 'stop look and listen' rules have to be abandoned.

I have three kids and all of them get taught to not walk out without looking and don't assume a car will stop.

I suspect your reaction was more favourable and adult than my reaction would have been! haha

v true; if only the entitled ‘Barry Boy’ types swarming our roads understood that the stop, look, listen rules apply to them as much, or even more than the children just trying to get around…

Pedestrian priority at junctions is clearly misunderstood by many. Approaching the M4 junction with the M25 yesterday I was greeted with a warning displayed on the overhead gantry “Pedestrians on the road.”

Natural Selection in action?

I used to live near a secondary school and it was staggering how the kids either had no concept of road safety and would aimlessly wander into the road, or blatantly swagger across the road with the, 'You won't run me over' mentality.

SWMBO had an 8-9 year old stroll in front of the car today when she was waiting to exit a junction. He just stood there grinning and patting the car now and then. Would not move and she said he looked as if he was almost daring her to move. The impasse was only broken by a youth turning in who, ahem, persuaded him to move post haste

This happens where I live quite often, the youngsters of today appear to have a built in "I'm more entitled than thou" mentality!:oops::dk:

Never happened to me, but now I've read that, I think if it ever does, after a few seconds I'll just sit with my hand on the horn. Mercedes horns are pretty loud, and will attract attention from anyone around.

Your move, you smartass little barsteward...

Unfortunately, a lot of youngsters have been told by their parents and teachers etc that they are more entitled then everyone else.

Pedestrians and Cyclist's are always in the right?
Right!
