Can anyone tell me which period correct tyres I should fit to my 1985 280 SL?

Thanks

Mid-eighties

More detail may elicit sensible answers, such as are you looking for a particular tyre size which no longer seems to exist etc.

Period correct being the tyres that the car would have had on it when it was first delivered. Which tyres did Mercedes fit to the r107?

They are 195/70 r14, so I was thinking probably a Michelin.

Sometimes fellas the clue is in the question, you have to stop being spoon fed at some point!

The spare wheel can be a clue, XZX?
Or simply decode the VIN, or check the service book paper flap.

Originally they would likely have been Michelin MXVs - released very early 80s so had been around for 3-4 years by the time your car was made.

I think they now refer to it as the MXV-P

Why are you opting for period correct tyres, is the car going to be displayed or something?

I was hoping to maybe go to a couple of events this year, and someone I know told me it's looked upon favourably if you make the effort to get the period right!

Plus it's got a set of balloons on it at the moment so I thought if I'm going to change get it right.

Definitely wrong. My late friend had Michelin XWXs for his Bristols.

Off the top of my head I think they should be 205/70R14
