My only experience on remaps is all turbo diesel related and the talk of improved economy is just that talk:D

Cant see a petrol kompressor being any different.

Probably not the best car to buy for economy.

24mpg:eek:,that sounds like a very bad return for a c200 komp,i always think it's better to get a more powerful engine in the 1st place ie a 230 as opposed to your 200 rather than getting a re-map,my thoughts only of course & if your happy with what you have been quoted then go for it:)

on the phone today they told me that i could expect 30 to 35 % power and torque gains
I would ask if they will back that up with before/after dyno runs.

IMHO a simple remap on a petrol engine would get nowhere near that. You'd need mechanical mods (supercharger pulley change etc.).

My mistake:o,still a poor mpg return don't you think:dk:

Power and torque gains are very, very optimistic. The kompressor engines don't respond terribley well to remapping alone. Even with a pulley, exhaust, manifold, etc you'd struggle to get anywhere near 30% more.

[Dragon's Den voice] For that reason, I'm out. [/Dragon's Den voice]

I get 24mpg from my CLK 500 convertible!!

It doesn't always work that a small engine in a big car is any good on fuel. The 320 petrol would probably be almost the same. Its a big car to haul round with a small engine.

I very much doubt you will get those figures from a petrol car, and would want before and after runs to prove. Were they sure its a petrol as thats more the figures they 'say' for a derv.

I have a feeling that engine has already been uprated from its original 150 to 170 bhp in the E class If you have the older 150bhp engine then 170/180 would be a realistic upgrade but as has been said would involve changes to the forced induction system as well as chipping. Squeezing any more out of it would possibly be a bit risky??

Thanks for the replys lads .
The reason why i bought a 200k is for road tax reasons . A 320 wold cost €1500 pa , where the 1.8 costs €550 pa .
They offer a 14 day money back gurantee , so i might give it a try . They dont offer a dyno service so i cant check the actual gains in power , bt since im more interested in trying to better the cars mpg , this i can check .

If you don't already do so, start keeping a written log of fuel consumption now. Do it the old fashioned way (date, mileage, & litres added to brim the tank) rather than relying on the trip computer.

Then you will have something accurate to compare with after the remap.

Also check what the impact on your insurance will be before going ahead.

I have contacted this company
Welcome to ECU-RS in Ireland, the ECU remapping experts,Ireland ecu remapping engine chip tuning
about getting my 211 remaped .
The car is a 200 kompressor , on the phone today they told me that i could expect 30 to 35 % power and torque gains and increase the cars mpg from 24 to 27 .
Has any one here ever delt with this company , or have experiance with remaping a petrol engine . My primary reason for the remap is to inprove fuel ecomany .

Superchips claim an increase of 12bhp. Superchips' figures are often conservative, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a 20bhp increase.

Petrol forced induction engines respond better to a chip than normally aspirated ones.

AFAIK that's true of turbocharged engines (because you can simply change the engine management parameters to up the boost), but not supercharged.

I think Shorty's car would give 160-180 bhp in stock form (depending on what year it is), so even a 20 bhp increase would be way short of the 30-35% increase being promised by these guys.

12 bhp increase on a 180 bhp E200 is 6%, which is probably in the right ballpark IMHO.
