Petrol or diesl 2002 to 2004 S class

Hi guys and girls i will be getting a S class in the newyear ， but i cant make my mind up ， i am a petrol head so a S500 would make sense to me， but with diesal averaging 10 cents (Ireland ) cheaper than petrol a diesal is on my mind.
So are the Dieals reliable compared to the V8s ， performance etc.
Any tips welcome.
My drive to work is 20 to 30 mins ， mostly Motorway?

S500 mate bound to be more reliable and a lot cheaper to buy so cost saving is minimal in real terms if any.

That could be 2 miles or 32 miles.

S500 will be smoother, quicker and will probably be better specced as they had more standard equipment than the diesel. However the OM648 diesel is absolutely bombproof according to my local mechanic and Mercedes specialist. Very economical for such a big car as well. You can't really go wrong with either.
