So we are going to see a rise of 2p in duty on fuel in Spetember......great!

And we are going to see a further rise of about 2p later in the year when VAT is increased back to 17.5%.

So fuel will go up by at least 4p a litre by the end of the year on top of any increase due to the rise in cost of crude.....

Shortly afterwards , the politicians responsible will find themselves voted out of office .

We are all entitled to know , under the freedom of information act , how our elected representatives voted on any issue of interest . If we , the voters , don't like the way we are represented we can vote them out at the next election .

Politicians should pay attention to motorists as all are either already registered voters , or will be within a year when they turn 18 .

They should be cutting fuel duty to help people cope with costs better as peoples wages aren't going up and a lot of people are facing job losses.

But then again, how would the government fund 3houses for its curropt members and buy porno for their sexually devient MP's spouses.

Careful people.
Politics are not allowed on the forum, but as the budget affects us all and this thread is about the cost of fuel, i am willing to let this one go for the moment, but please keep it nice, or it will be locked and/or removed.

I am not raising any political issue but regardless of who is in Government, we're gonna get stiffed!!!

Unfortunately, we have to adjust to the fact that fuel, IMHO, will never be 'cheap' again.

Any other suggestions as to where the money to repay the borrowing is coming from?

Not being political - but the countries debt is really ours and therefore we have to repay it...

Suggestions on a postcard to SW1A ...

Looks like we all have to pay for the good times eventually.... :p

Wednesday 23 March..............just can't remember the year....

I suspect we will be paying at least £1.10 a litre for petrol and around £1.20 a litre for diesel by the end of the year. But if the economy really gets going and the cost of crude shoots through the roof again then I dread to think what we may end up paying. :(

Hasn't anyone noticed - the price of petrol always climbs during the summer months to discourage people from using their cars during the sumer months , then it falls back during the winter . This pattern has repeated for several years now .

Interesting. And just to get the order of magnitude right for how much we have to find: the govt said today it will borrow an extra £600 billion over the next 4 years. That's £600,000 million. Divide that by 60 million people and it works out at £10,000 for each man woman and child.

The extra taxes on the very well off will raise 7 billion of the 600 billion needed. So we must find the rest.

So basically, the rich got off easy?!!!

No. There aren't many of them.

But they help create an illusion that the rest of us need not pay, which will last for not much more than twelve months. Then the truth will be revealed in all its horrors.

Isn't this because the Americans usually go on driving holidays and therefore the demand for crude increases??

HMRC budget report

Page 39, Net borrowing (£ billion)

2008/09 £90
2009/10 £175
2010/11 £173
2011/12 £140
2012/13 £97

So I presume that means the total net borrowing over the next 4 years (2009/13) will be £585 billion?

Could some economics type person explain to me how we will pay back the borrowing in a clear manner to counter the media hysterics.

I'm guessing we're not going to directly pay £10k each in 2011.. so what will it be? Additional NI? 1/2p in the pound increase over 20 years?

I think you may find he is planning to borrow more like £175 billion this year the rest is being raised by taxation... trouble is paying back the £175 bn will be an onerous tast....

So to pay it back we have to either increase the other parts of the income pie chart or reduce the out goings or BOTH..it aint gonna be a pretty picture
