whats happened to the fuel loby,if i remember they were creating a stink when fuel hit 90p per ltr,ive just payed £1.05 for shell optimax...whats going on !!

With Brown & Co flexing their muscles with Russia - don't expect any price cuts in the near future (although cheaper dollars should help - it wont)....

£1.05 for optimax - luxury! Even the low grade super unleaded (when you can get it) has been 1.08 to 1.10 for months here...

The youth of today, I can remebber 5* at tuppence a barrel and a free spoon!

Colin:)

yes but the furore was caused by standard fuel prices going through the roof. this is a "super premium" fuel if you like and, as such (like the extra special products in asda) you have to expect to pay a bit more i suppose.

just one thing, and sorry to hijack this thread for a sec. do amg models HAVE to use the higher octane fuels or is it just a matter of the extra grunt/smoothness the fuel will give? just a query

I have a Clio 182 that 'recommends 98 ron' - which seems to be the Euro super unleaded standard. Some petrol sellers call 97 ron 'super and charge as if it were 98 (Mobil & esso).

Either way, it seems to make no difference in my clio 182, and it made little improvement in the 265bhp subaru before that.

My dealer told me on Sunday that super unleaded is not required, Specifically for an SLK350/280.

try it and see it it runs better, orl ook inside the fuel filler cap?

Colin

Just for the record French petrol prices varied between 85 and 95 pence litre (standard 95 unleaded), interestingly enough I was at one service station where the difference between 95 and 98 octane was only 0.01 euro.

I don't think you have to. My C32 doesn't require super unleaded - but I do choose to feed it on V-Power.

I sent an email to Customer Services asking if the engine in my car would make the most super unleaded, and they IIRC pretty much didn't answer and instead said use regular unleaded fuel.

I use Tesco Super .. it's about 4p per litre more, but I think it's worth it. The car is more responsive, happier and smoother on super

try it for yourself and see whether you detect any difference

Would it excessively pedantic to point out Optimax is called V Power these days?

Definitely not, because they're not the same thing :)

Optimax was 98 RON, and V-Power is 99 RON.

I filled up with Tesco Super 99 RON the other day. Thought I would give it a try............See how we go in the next week

You guys paying £1.05 per litre are making me feel happier. I was bothered at paying £1 per litre on the motorway a few weeks ago, makes the biodiesel at 79.5p seem very attractive.:D

Oil is currently 74.50 to 80 dollars per barrel.
Perhaps others know the economics of how and when this works through to the pump.
But when I were a lad and had a holiday job on the pumps, the cost was 1s 11d or just under 10p per gallon. No stamps but I checked your oil and tyres as well. Sometimes I even managed to put the oil and air in the right places.
