Guys what can i use to clean the crap in my tank??? it has been flushed but its still putting engine light on, what ever was in that fuel aint gone....
I need some sort of fuel cleaner but which one

Have you cleaned out the pump, replaced the fuel filter and flushed the line up to and including the injectors?

All the system cleaners are meant for gum and varnish, plus some remove water - can't see any of them dissolving sand?

I have always used Redex. I don't know if Chevron's Techron is available there or not but I've used this and it is pretty good too. Slick 50 Fuel Treatment used to work wonders in my 280SE M110 (Bosch CIS Injection System), I don't know if any body else has had similar experiences with it or not.

Regards,

Asif.

I know that they flushed the tank, and replaced the filter. Im not sure what this stuff is, it cant be sand as it lumps together after you shake it???

Jaj, it sounds like clay or similar. Have you been in touch witht he petrol station or fuel firm yet. This sounds like they should be paying for all this work and hassle.

Your injection system needs a good strip, clean and flush with fresh petrol. Try running the car from a can and discharging into a different can.

Hi Guys,
Had Recovery guy out, was self adaptation on the car that was out and caused the light to go on, got it reset may have been air in there or something???? no misfire yet, will need to keep eye on it though.
Have no idea what this stuff is, i am meeting with fuel station manager tommorrow but spoke to him on the phone and was usual crap, not us must be your car blah blah blah....

Doesn't sound right - engine light comes on:

a) because the ECU can't get the engine into its "safe" parameter range by adjusting mixture, timing etc etc so something must be broken - e.g. o2 sensor says engine is too lean regardless of ECU telling injectors to push more fuel.

b) because one or more sensors stop talking to it/talk impossible numbers and so are marked as broken and the ECU uses "safe" parameters instead - e.g MAF reports impossibly low airflow at a given RPM.

Recovery man was probably saying ECU was reporting it was at max adaption and still couldn't make the mixture correct and so lit the light.

Guessing, you still have some crud circulating affecting fuel flow and so making the ECU adapt to the limit but no longer enough to cause the mixture to be so wacky that the ECU decides to close the whole 3 cyl bank down (?).

W124, i think you may be rigght, the car also needs to be boot strapped aswell, apparantly, this should reset certain parts of the car back to factory..

Do you have a running car, or are you still hitching a lift?

I've just gone through the various threads that tie back to your petrol contamination problem. Given the cost to fix it I would think a crud analysis from a fuel consultant would likely give you the answer as to where it came from, a BP fuel station pump or whatever. If it is typical of contaminated petrol you must have a case for damages (provided you keep your receipts!).

It is a complex story and I hope at least your mechanical troubles are over!

the crud test costs £60 from local analysis place, BP are flat out not accepting its from their fuel, to be honest i dont think they will pay out anything, they are being quite stern over the issue, and no one else has come forward to say it has happened to them

Well, they would say that wouldn't they?

In your shoes I would get the crud test done for the sixty quid and go to the local trading standards officer with the report. Assuming of course it supports your case. The local press will see to it that others come forward - it's potentially a good local story.

If the crud report suggests the deposits came from another source it would help you make an educated guess as to how it got into the engine. I would want to know!

they are actually snax 24 a company that is third party to bp.... bp only supply fuel to them and the trade under the logo bp..... have sent a letter to them with some info about what happened and got my mechaninc to sign etc see what they say

Right well its no good complaining to BP. You bought your fuel from that station, and its them you have a contract with.

You can try, sending BP a letter may get interesting results, but I think that in law, your argument is with the station that took your money.

You need to speak with your local trading standards office. You need to get all receipts for fuel purchased, you need a test done on the contents of your tank. Also, if you're quick enough the station may have CCTV of you filling up, although most managers would probably delete the footage to save themselves any bother.
