This was prompted by reading something on another forum but thought it might be interesting/funny/helpful to try here.

Have you any phobias, strange or otherwise you want to share?

I have a couple, both irrational and silly but owning up anyway.

    1. Stinging nettles. I can't touch them since falling into a patch of them as a kid. I can barely handle them in the garden with gloves. Sad but true.

    2. Dead animals. Fur or feathers, I can't touch a dead animal, yet I can handle the Sunday joint and prepared chickens and turkeys. Our poor cat snuffed it and she had to be removed on the end of a shovel such was my fear. Irrational and silly again but its there.

This may go back to walking in on my Grandad in the garage just as he chopped the head off the chicken we were having for dinner. I was 5 and the chicken still running with blood gouting out of its neck has stayed with me forever.

    Anyone else?

    FLYING,

I dont ever lol, I cant even get on a Static plane even if it hasn't got engines attached, I blame my dad taking my on a Flying experiance when i was a young Lad at Duxford, we flew over Royston and i remember seeing the cars on the road below through the gap in the door and fuselage of the plane as we passed above coupled with the Air pockets i wanted to vomit , Cessna i think it was.

I know The large planes are different but they smell all the same, i just cant do it.

Foam / sponge , dont know where that phobia came from but cant touch the stuff. Strangely enough when it is wet i have no issue with it.

Been chased around the house numerous times when the kids came home from the "shows" with on of them foam finger things , they thought it was hilarious just a shame i didn`t see the funny side of it , wee sods.

Spiders. My entire lifetime. I have tried to conquer it without any success.

Edges with drops. Like a harbour wall or cliff edge.

Eels and Snakes. No idea why but I hate the movement.

Birds. As a toddler I was attacked by one of my grandparents cockerels and ever since I feel uncomfortable around birds unless they are on a plate or in a cage.
Cats. I have no desire of touching them and don’t want them to touch me or come close to me. Anything less than 6 feet is too close.

Well I had this as a child, one of my chores was to post letters,I hated putting the letters into the post box,I used to walk up to the red post box and if I was lucky somebody else was posting and I would ask them to put my letters into the box, other times I had to do it,and I think it was the act of letting the letters go,I have no idea where that phobia came from, today well when ever I post a letter I still think back to when I was a child, but I do not have the irrational fear.

Raggety from “Rupert the Bear” as a child he really would upset me and I would have to skip entire passages of the books.

As an adult I found myself having dinner one evening with one of the illustrators for the books. She told me that my fear was common. Great.

    Jeez no wonder.
