Very interesting when some thing has been found like that out of the blue

One is struck by the longevity /survival of such archive film material and reminded how fundamental the processes are [ mainly chemical] to produce these images. While we are now overwhelmed by images, both fixed and video one wonders at the longevity of same as they often exist merely as digital data only to accessed by the appropriate hardware and software which may become obsolescent in time. There was a recent program on BBC Scotland about amateur 8mm movie making and notable that much was down to one Norman Speirs aged 90, who had the knowledge and equipment to transfer 8mm film to digital DVD. Worth it just to see his setup 2minutes in--marvelous!
