We might be inclining towards getting either of them fitted in our W211. The Avic is around £1500 fitted with a nice 7" screen, 30GB drive, USB slot, satnav + bluetooth phone kit + dvd/divx/mp3 player and the DVD drive is free even when using satnav as the software is on the hard drive. Has a remote control + voice control (kind of Linguatronic)

Comand would be £2700 (quoted by braybrooks) but probably without the phone kit. Ofcourse it looks much better then the pioneer and probably adds value to the car.

What would you vote?

Thanks

Down to you, but I would also like to suggest that any item can be stolen from a car, but the COMAND is less likely to get lifted.

We have the larger Pioneer AVIC in our Sprinter, but would this look as nice as a pukker COMAND for the 211?

Braybroooks has an excellent reputation but it might not be the cheapest installer.

Good luck,
John

Each to thier own but I would have to say the Pioneer avid HD3BT. Have read many reviews on this unit and all are near flawless. It looks great, has more attractive menus and has ALOT more gear than the comand so is more value for money. Although the comand does give a OEM look, this can also give a near OEM finesh if installed with the correct surrounds, example shown in a Vito:

Now doesnt that look just great does to me anyway ! Each to thier own and I know other peoples opinions may differ

Now doesnt that look just great

But it would look pretty awful in my car:

In my personal opinion, Mercedes has never since achieved again this integrated, balanced, elegant look that the original W220 COMAND provides.

 :D Good morning Alfie,
I take it that we now know someone that can also install COMAND into the 211? :D

I love the interior lay-out design of the S-class, but the wood effect colour of your example is perhaps an acquired taste. :) :o It certainly makes a statement.

There is something of a statement in my choice of colour scheme. I'm not much of a herd animal, so I tend to go for choices that set me apart ;).

That being said, the picture does not do the real interior justice, in that it is in reality less "in your face". The wood is real, it's chestnut, and it goes very well with the anthracite leather, not in the least because there is this contrast between the dark leather and the light wood colours. Here is the interior:

The car feels cozy and the 220 chassis is dominated by elegant, smooth lines, which - again - goes well with this colour scheme's elegance. :)

My previous one was more traditional in terms of colour scheme:

If only.... If only they built an estate  I must confess that I was impressed with the selections of designio wood patterns and these do allow us to individualise our vehicles.

Agreed, personalisation is good!

It's highly likely that my next car, in a few years, will be another s-class, but I must say that they no longer have the timeless classic, understated lines of the Sacco era or indeed the sheer elegance, stylishness and grace that they managed since the late 90s, with the CLS perhaps being the exception that confirms the rule.

It will take me a lot of time to adjust to the more chunky lines of the W221 .

I voted comand because it can be done for less than £2,700. If the pioneer is £1,500 then i'd go for comand every time.

A very quick price check came up with £750 for the pioneer unit here.....prices are tumbling.....

no thats the D3BTI. Its without linguatronic and no hard drive, smaller screen and cannot be controlled by a w211 steering wheel. I did consider that option as well as D3 can be fitted by audio66 for £850

Now in that case I would say say Comand option, but for a W211 I would go for the Pioneer Unit
