I'm planning a trip to the above, soonish, so where and what's good to see.
I do like driving up steep hills :thumb:and moutain passes like the Hardknott pass in the Lake District.
Also love to drive off the beaten track. We should be staying over one to two nights, so we can also visit other places like Newcastle, Gateshead's Angel of the North, Whitley Bay etc.

I would recommend a trip to Kielder forest for one thing, then there is Hadrians wall if that sort of thing interests you.
Plenty of great roads, not many steep passes though also fairly empty if you choose the right ones.
For a day trip driving start from Kielder and head down to Otterburn then towards Rothbury. The Coquet valley is realtively unknown and tourist free with some stunning views. At Rothbury there is Cragside house, the first house in the UK with Electricity. From Rothbury head over the hills via Scots Gap rather than towards Morpeth, more smaller roads and beatiful views. Worth a visit to Robson and Cowan at Scots Gap, a large farmers store which keeps Rural Northumberland running!(Also know as the univeristy of Scots Gap!)If you cant get something there you dont need it.

If you like beaches the Come up to the North of the county and go to Bamburgh beach or visit Lidisfarne (Holy Island) and the Farne Isles. In the same area you have the Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle. If you want to do that then I have a B&B in the area!
Northumberland is a beautiful county and unspoilt unlike many other touist traps.

If you want any info just ask!

The Angel of the North is one to do on the way up or down again. It is just off the A1 and can be walked to in about 5 mins, so dont do a trip especially to see that.
