Wifes grandfather recently died, leaving his bungalow to wifes mother. Bungalow built in 1930's by grandfather, both wifes mother & wife born there - so a bit of a family tie in.
Bungalow sits on quarter acre plot and has not been "modernised". Is approx 31ft wide x 28ft front to back with a fully hipped roof.
Wife has 2 brothers, both of which would like to buy the bungalow off the family & extend/modernise for their own use.
However, mother & father-in-law would like to move there themselves. They would only need single storey side extension for garage & single storey full width rear extension to create decent lounge & kitchen.
If (or when) bungalow passes to either of wifes brothers, they would also want a loft conversion for 2 additional bedrooms & bathroom.
Now for the planning question -
As far as I am aware, a planning approval usually has a clause "the work must be commenced within 3 (or 5 years)" However, I don't believe there is a clause requiring the work to be completed, either at all or within a time period.
If a planning application is made for wifes brothers requirements ie including rooms in the roof, could the single storey extensions for mother & father-in-law be built and left flat roofed, ready for brothers to "complete" some time in the future?
