I have a 2009 w204 with COMAND APS that plays DVDs, but turns off when you move off, is there a way of connecting the player to rear mounted screens?

I spoken to the dealership who have suggested no:confused:

I can't completely answer this, but I think it is probably possible.

The GLK has the same COMAND as the W204 C class.

That supports Rear Seat Entertainment system, so thus I think it probably can connect to external video display - and i think the GLK can view what is played in the DVD changer in the COMAND. (unlike the older NTG2 system).

It may need an expensive outing in genuine Mercedes parts to do...

You need someone to look at the circuit diagrams in WIS.

On aftermarket stereos the dvd function is linked through an earth that the instructions require you to attach to the parking brake circuit so that it only shows dvds when the parking brake is on. Easy work around with this is to just wire the cable straight to the chassis or another earth source so that the stereo thinks that the parking brake is always on.

This may be the same kind of thing that needs to be done but obviously it will be more integrated into the onboard computer for speed etc.

Unfortunately with MB it is not as simple as grounding the parking brake wire to get the dvd in motion. It has to be disabled by STAR.

You are better off just installating aftermarket rear mounted screen that run off their own seperate dvd player.

May certainly be the cheaper option but then youve got all the gubbins that go with it like the actual dvd player that would need to be put out of sight plus it will look a bit untidy.

Ive got the DDX8024bt double din headunit in the front and have the cable for the parking brake connection spliced onto the actual main earth of the stereo so it has a constant earth but as you said as its not the oem mb unit thats in it, it doesnt communicate with the onboard cpu so doesnt need any software tweaks to work.

Ill probably look at the monitors in the future but i think it will just be the case of wiring them up as the displays should have no problem when in motion.

I dont actually take advantage of the cheat of being able to watch a dvd when in motion at the moment as i have to drive so its a bit pointless until i fit the rear monitors.
