Hi

My car manual says it should play mp3 cds in the cd player - but when ever i save any and play them....................nothing...any ideas?

That is besides playing proper cds..lol...

Also is it possible to wire up other types of mp3 players besides ipods? I have a sony ....I use the wireless transmitter approach but it isnt brilliant sound.

Thanks:bannana:

Have you closed the cd session when you burned the mp3s in order to be readable to a cd player? Also have you placed them to a secondary folder? It is advisable not to place them to any extra folder but to the root folder of the cd. I hope this helps

and if the above doesn't work try using a different make of cd as that can also have an effect;)

Have tried both of these....but to no avail. But thanks anyway for your suggestions much appreciated, I think I will enquire from dealer when it goes in for its service. May be a faulty unit.

If you own a C class (W203) i wonder how in earth you can manage to play Mp3 on your sound system... what sort of system does your car have???
Keeps us informed....

my bmw's play mp3's. Use nero to burn them as an MP3 disk and they work fine on CDR's

To be more specific, I personally own a W203 (model year 2005) C sportscoupe with comand aps (means dvd based) with a Cd changer non Mp3 compartible. None of these (comand aps) or cd changer, seems to be Mp3 compatible, and as far as I know, none of C class is compatible (Audio 20)
But maybe Iam wrong....

Hi Crocker
I've been trying to find out similar issues on another thread.
As far as we can work out:
No W203 Systems will play MP3 CD's in the head unit.
From mid -2004 you could play MP3 CD's in the CD-Changer with an Audio 20

Sometime around the end of 2005 (Before I bought my car, but after they made the Comand Unit that got fitted to it...) Mp3 capability in the CD changer was added to Comand APS. No one seems sure if there is
an upgrade route for Older DVD COMAND units like some of us have
Does anyone have MP3 working on the Changer with a COMAND fitted before 2006?

The Ipod kit seems to work with all COMAND APS.

The Aux in jack is well worth fitting - Its basicly just wire and connectors. Should cost no more than a few pounds to fit (Bits cost me £15 and fitting was no extra charge when I got the Changer installed-maybe an hour so otherwise) - works great although on mine I need to turn the volume up a bit (Then it blasts when the Traffic Alert comes on...)

Good Luck
Joe

I've got a 2006 W203 (coupe) with Audio 20, CD Changer and Ipod interface. To confirm what joembuck wrote, my CD changer does play MP3 discs (only first 99 tracks per disc limit). I don't think I've ever tried an MP3 disc in the Audio 20 because I'd already read that it wouldn't work

I have a 2005 Audio 20 and it is supposed to play mp3 files...but doesnt..i was just wondering if I was doing something wrong.....but as I dont have the cd changer that must be why...thanks to all

OOPs just re-read manual....yes you're right mp3 only works on changer......not the head unit....an embarrased crocker hiding under his pillow....

The C320 CDI I test drove was a 2005 55 reg with a wide screen DVD command unit. Does that have an iPOD connection facility ?

I hate asking this question :D ......if so does it display the MP3 track names in the instrument cluster ? :o (I know these types of questions have been asked in other threads but there are so many conflicting stories...)

I have 2005 W209 CLK, Just tried an MP3 CD Burnt at a speed of x4 and didnt work in the headunit, then tried it in the changer and it works fine. No need for my IPOD Kit now. :D Thanks for the Info guys....

So to confirm MP3 CD works fine in my 2005 CLK Audio 20 when CD is put in the CD Changer :D

Is it easy to add a cd changer that plays mp3s to the car?

If your car have audio 20 cd and most (optical interface), you can change original 6disc cd-changer to 6disc mp3-changer from W211/W164 (parts number A2118703889 or A211870539).

Turn the ignition on
Turn on Audio 20
Unload all the disks from the CD-Changer
Turn off Audio 20
Turn the ignition off
Wait 2-3 minutes
Disconnect the battery
Wait a minute
Disconnect cd-changer
Connect mp3-changer (no cd's)
Connect battery
Wait 2-3 minutes to initialize mp3-changer
Turn the ignition on
Turn the ignition off
Turn on Audio 20
Press CDC button (look message on display about changer is empty)
Press CD button
Turn Audio 20 off
MP3 Changer A2118703889 in my W203:

for correct installation on place in the glovebox, you have to cut a square hole (50x50mm) in the back wall of the glovebox in a place where the wiring comes out of mp3-changer

Just for the point of mentioning it, I used to play MP3 discs in old of my older cars that had a Sony head unit. If I just burnt a disc "off the bat" it wouldn't play. If I burnt a disc and "closed" the session so nothing more could be written to the disc, it worked perfectly.
