Hiya.PLease advise- c200 1998 engine misfiring-Changed coils,Changed sparks, changed leads-checked air mass.Still the problem of misfire, loss of power-does not go beyond 30mph.When cold seems fine but soon as engine warms up starts shaking .Been told cylinders 1 & 4 -And ECU is faulty.Your expert opinions sought. Is it is ECU where can i get it fixed or get another.Anything i need to be aware of?Also, heater has packed in.....what a time. Thanks

Is the Engine light on ?

It's very unlikely t0 be the ECU the normally all or nothing !

Have you had a Diag test ?

Hiya, engine light is not on.Indy put star to it showing cylinder 1 & 4.Said the ecu connectors had moisture and was 'green'.Something about when ECU warms up resistors? fail.???

What he probably means is the ECU output transistors that drive the coils are overheating. There are 2 channels since its a lost spark system [ i.e. one coil fires 2 plugs together and since only one plug is on the cylinder with the compression/power stroke the second plug firing has no effect] It looks as if one of the coil outputs is failing when it overheats. There are various firms that offer exchange rebuilds. This is one of them. http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx

Thanks Grober for the info.So it can be the ECU.
With regards heater not working-does not switch on ,no heat, wirring sound and i think losing water-Wet drivers side footwell. What could it be-matrix or blower.thanks

I had similar symptoms on my C36. A water leak from the heater hose at the rear of the engine wet the crankshaft position sensor and caused very rough running, but only when hot. It might be worth a look in your case!

when i bought my car the heater did not work and the passenger side footwell was wet.took it to my local indie who said the drainage channels were blocked with leaves causing water to get in.He cleared the blockage and took the blower apart which was full of water. It works ok now.
