and why is it a brownish colour ...leak ?

If you take off the front cover I'm pretty sure that's a hose into the power steering fluid reservoir.

I've just checked mine (09/13 507 Coupe) and the pipe is black and made of rubber with the AMG stamp on it.

Perhaps the one you are looking at has had a leak and it has been fixed but contaminated the rubber pipe? Possibly a simple replacement would look better.
