In Edinburgh yesterday I saw an unmarked black Audi S3 sport back going for it. It has lights in the grille, side bumpers.

Its on a 58 reg from memory.

Good luck.

No pandas 'metros fiestas etc' any more so the marked fleet is:

Astra 'response vehicles'
BMW 3 series 'area cars'
BMW 5 series 'traffic cars'
Mitsubishi shogun 'traffic 4x4'
Mondeo estate 'dog van'
Mercedes Vano 'collision investigation'
Mercedes sprinter with converted ambulance shell 'riot units'

Unmarked fleet....... well that would be telling ;)

Around here I've seen quite a few in new Range Rovers but I guess that's for the ability to pull lorries to saftey etc?, I can't remember if it was local or not but I swear I saw a marked XF once too.

Special Escort Group, they are really, really, good solo riders and drivers who ensure the smooth passage of important folk round london and the country.

Most times.

hmm - was driving around by heathrow when a convoy came through - at the back was a range rover, I presume SEG - anyway the lady in front of me ( who had slowed down anyway ) proceeded to have a member of our police force slow her down further in the range rover - lean out of the drivers door, pointed to her and shout - " f'king stay back there" - after saying that he caught up with the rest of the convoy...

Must have been the coffee run

I've always been impressed by the escorts the bike cops do... When I college, I used to sit at the coffee shop near Gloucester road and hope to see them come through.

One would ride ahead of the other, stop in the middle of the junction with his lights and siren on, thus stopping traffic. The second would ride through at speed, and then stop traffic at the next junction allowing the first guy to ride through that junction at speed.

I was always very impressed by their ability and lack of any self-preservation instinct whatsoever!

I've only ever seen the SEG escorts use lights and whistles round here (Strand) - never sirens??

Central Police have an unmarked unbadged 5 series estate in silver. Must be coming up for a change though, it's on a 57 plate i think.

I was driving along the A27 one day, overtaking in the outside lane, when a BMW appeared at speed from nowhere and sat a few inches off my bumper. I pulled in when safe and he shot off (I was doing 70). A few moments later a C Class Estate came bombing past at a similarly silly speed.

I couldn't help but smile when a few miles later I saw both cars parked up. The Merc had sprouted a load of flashing blue lights and the occupants seemed to be 'having a word' with the driver of the BMW.

I've seen it on the M9 wrecking havoc with peoples licences.

That's the one, struck me as strange it was debadged. Also got pulled by an L&B one in the borders once, 335d M-Sport. There is a blue thing Central have too.... I want to say a Volvo but I can't quite remember at the mo. See the beemer a lot more.

Job-Black-Rat

Where are you based at?

Im at TDJ North East traffic garage, standard patrol and Fatal collison responce, busy again today im afriad to say.

Along William IV St (behind the Strand) they park unmarked cars (mostly Zafiras) in bays marked "Police Vehicles Only". With the logbook/folder thing (marked "Police") on top of the dash. And sometimes with the driver's sunvisor (which says "Police" on the back) folded down :)

SEG pride themselves on not using two tones. Also, the Boss dislikes them, you should never hear them near Buck Palace.

Sonny, you been playing photoshop fantasy again, haven't you? ;)

Sussex have got a lot of random unmarked cars, like a Gray 1 series, saw that having words with a BMW on the A27 a couple of weeks back.

Colchester has the usual Volvo V70's (marked) and unmarked S60's. They also have some Bmw 3's (unmarked).

i was in colchester the other day and i saw about 5 volvo estates on the huge roundabout just on the A12... all checking tax disks and tire pressure...

while there all busy doing that im sure sombody is getting robbed or stabbed.. but.. silly glorified traffic wardens know whats important

If they were dealing with tax, MOT and insurance using apnr (and driving licenses) then as far I am concerned that's a good thing. A horrendous percentage of vehicles in east london lack these things.

Just my 2c
