Ponton with a difference...

nice car, i'd have kept the original dash though, much better than that plastic one.

Look at the craftsmanship gone into that .....

To fit the 190 2.3/16 dash as well is incredible , much more of an achievement than keeping the original .... also the 190 interior .....

Love the AMG splitties too ....

Serious workmanship.....I opened the link expecting to see a right dodgy conversion, but have to say that its been well done.

its been well done but completely out of place in my opinion...

The first interior pic looks like a FX4 taxi..

for what its worth, if they narrowed the wheels, and maybe fitted something abit more in keeping with its original look, it might get away with it.

certainly a technical acheivement, but having a proper old dash in front of you is a huge part of owning a classic, even an updated one, and you can hardly call that big chunk of 90's plastic pretty, i am not frightened to modify an old car, but i always try to retain as much of its character as i can or whats the point? might as well be sitting in the 190 as far as the driver is concerned.

It was probably easier to fit the modern dash than get the elctronics modified to look the part in original dash, so although it looks harder it was probably the easy way out.

updating the mechanical parts i whole heartedly approve of though.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I quite like the idea of the 2.3-16 dash/instruments, the seats, running gear etc with the classic look of the original car on the outside (I might prefer period looking wheels with a wider rim etc?)

Still, credit where credit's due - it's an impressive conversion and surely unique

Wouldn't say no :)

I am undecided about my coupes interior, really i'd like to fit taller front seats with head restraints that are more comfy and supportive, but i love the look of the originals in there, life is full of tough decisions. lol

Weird to see this today. I saw an ad for 2x Pontons for sale (£14k for both). I'd love to have the right period design for the visible bits, so in this example, whilst impressive, the old dash is far classier. The wheels too are IMO wrong, so I'd have the oily bits of a modern car, with the character of old.

With those looks and those wheels it needs an AMG V8 and regular trips to the drag strip.

Wheels ruin it IMO, should have kept period rims.

Amazing that the dash fits though! :)

Yeah , period rims'd be great for putting 200 bhp down to the road ..... :D

How about some high sidewall tyres for the twisty bits too ? ;)

You coming to MBWorld on the 10th Karl ?

tis true you need good tyres, i was trying to put over 200bhp down through lil 13x7 pirelli P6's in my Cortina to retain period looks and it just wasnt working out well at all, sometimes you have to sacrifice looks for the ability to go forwards instead of sideways.
