A code like that could simply be a faulty sensor but these early engines are known for developing faulty timing gear= tensioner, chain and sprockets. If one of these was to go you might end up with a wrecked engine. Time to get the timing gear checked for wear by a competent MB specialist garage. Other possibility is that there's a oil migration problem from a leaking camshaft actuator to the engine ECU. This is such a well known problem Mercedes brought out a kit to cure/prevent it. Again your best solution is to get the car to an MB specialist ASAP Check out the M271 ENGINE threads on this forum.

I had a the error and went down the road of changing the magnetic sensor at the end with the extra cable to stop the oil going down the wires.
It did help but changing the lambda sensor did the trick for me in the end. ( front one ).

Get your car to a reputable MB specialist, your chain has stretched or the timing gear has
got badly worn and the chain has jumped a tooth(common fault) on higher mileage cars.
Driving the car in this condition will likely cause complete engine failure rendering it beyond
economical repair.
