    Quick answer please.

Bought a new small telly yesterday from Curry/PC. Getting it back to the caravan it's got the worst picture ever. Not got time to haggle with them ( moving on tomorrow), so...what are my rights for a refund?..as opposed to "try this one sir".

    Ta.

    Yep, one of THOSE !!!
If you already have a tv that gives a good picture then you know your aerial should be ok.

No idea about the right to refund. That'll be on their receipt or store T&C

If they plug it in to a decent aerial in the shop and the picture's OK, then I'd say there's precious little right to a refund unless you told them it was for use on a portable antenna in a caravan prior to purchase.

The store may have a "money back if not satisfied" policy though, so that's where I'd start.

Shop has powerfeed aerial so no contest. Aerial on caravan is full domestic Freeview on 10ft pole with 6/6 on strength meter. My hunch is the telly is poor although Samsung. White is glaring, black is dominant, close-up faces are sort of OK but distant shots are out of focus. Small ticker-tape writing across bottom of screen is almost unreadable.

Problem is...haven't got time to argue with them.

Can you film the poor picture quality on an iPad or phone? And then do the same at the same location with another telly?

Before you through the hassle have you tried adjusting the picture for contrast etc?

It might be the settings rather than the TV.

Alternatively you could try putting your glasses on.

Just return it under the Consumer Rights Act as it sounds like its not of satisfactory quality and not fit for purpose.

Quick answer. Currys have a 28 or 30 day returns policy if for any reason you are not satisfied. No reasonneeds to be give. I've used it. Edit 14days if opened

 never thought of that. 10/10 for comedy potential. Main man :thumb: :D.

And many thanks to a'body else for the sensible suggestions, especially Ted who gave the answer I wanted to hear. I'll report again tomorrow; if the wifi's any good at the new site in Loughboro. Horndean's getting closer :D.

I'm surprised you have time to watch the tv anyway, what with all the driveways that need doing :p

But I couldn't miss seeing Leicester cricket X1 lifting the County trophy for 'Best Team' yesterday.

    See what I did there?

And what's this about "driveways"?

Im guessing it's a tenuous link in reference to you, your caravan and the Tarmac trade? :D

Full, instant refund this morning. Thanks Ted. :thumb:
They didn't even open the box or ask what it was that was wrong with it :dk:.

Could have had a half brick in there for all they were interested.

That's why I buy from big chains where I can, the staff aren't interested or paid enough to have an argument about it.

I bought a TV stand via Tesco Direct a few months ago, it was fairly expensive at about 300 quid, and looked top notch in the pictures.

When it arrived, it looked like it should have been 20 quid from B&M, the curved panels weren't curved evenly, and the G clip things were made of cheese. After I snapped most of them, I threw it back in the box and took it to my nearest Tesco. The lady didn't even look at it, she just hit refund on the order number and wheeled it away.

I bought a DVD player from Currys a few years back.
I had only had it for a week or so when it packed up, so I took it back expecting an exchange with no problems.
No chance - their policy, they told me was to send it off for repair if it hadn't failed on installation.
No way - I said - clearly faulty from new, called the manager who repeated the policy, and despite me kicking up a stink, refused to give me a new one.
VERY unhappy, I reluctantly agreed to send it off for repair.
They took my details and gave me the paperwork which I read on the way out - and it said something along the line of "if you are unhappy with your purchase you can return it in good condition, with packaging for a full refund" - I thought it was 28 days.
Turned right round, collared the manager and pointed it out, he turned to the assistant, and said "Get the gentleman a new one".
While we were waiting for it, he told me, very embarrassed, that they knew about this, but they HAD to try the 'return for fix' unless the customer knew about the other returns policy.

It could be the settings. Worth making sure the picture is set to "Normal" rather than "Dynamic" or anything similar. You could start by putting the contrast to almost maximum and then turning up the brightness until you see something decent. There are plenty of guides on the web on how to setup a LCD TV picture. Good luck!
