poor stating when first started

i have a 53 reg w209,when starting for the first time each day it takes longer than normal to start,it cranks over but keeps cranking for about 10 seconds,then it starts all day normal about 3 seconds,what would cause that.

Glow plugs was it? Mine has a dodgy glow plug and typically the first cold start takes a little effort like you say but then perfect all day
