Learned collegues ....

I only get a weak signal from my wireless broadband in my flat ( router is in spare bedroom ) the flat is constructed in 1960 ish so has proper solid walls and concrete ceilings .....

When i am in the lounge, the connection is very poor, so what i am getting at, is there an amplifier or booster or just a big aerial i can add on to help the signal ...

I can't move the router anywhere else , so that's not an option ...

Any ideas ? the router is a white Netgear one , don't know the model number or anything about it ( Angela's bro , IT guy , set it up having procured one from work for me ;) )

All help appreciated ....

maplins aerials

you could try one of these from MAPLINS to boost your signal a bit. Dont know iif they work?? http://www.maplin.co.uk/searchtemplate.asp?criteria=NETWORK ROUTER AERIAL
other suggestions include changing the orientation of the router aerial to 45 degrees instead of 90 or raising the position of the router -higher is normally better.
edit:- will learn to spell aerial correctly one day!

Just had a read of that ......

Don't think i could make that , i'd be bound to mess it up ...

Have you made one Guy ?

Why can't you move the router?

Would it not just be easier and cheaper to buy some longer cables?

Apple have a nice system where you can use the Airport Express as a repeater for the Apple Wireless Base Station - i know not really a help to your current predicatment.

Out of interest - does the weak signal cause it to drop the connection - or is it that you are seeing poor data throughput?

The reality is that your wireless bandwidth is considerably in excess of your broadband bandwidth.

From Pringles ?

Ok loads of things you can do.
I do this forra job ( Ok I manage the guys who do it..)
These area few suggestions.
What security are you using? If you use WPA you will get a worse signal than if you use WEP.
What wireless are you using? A, B or G. or Pre-N
A is old. B is 11mps and is ¨stronger¨ than G which is 54mps. HOWEVER Pre-n is very very good. If you use the Belkin one ( and I appreciate some people wont like Belkin, that maybe because of the lifetime guarantee and support that come with it !) it doesnt really use Pre-N what it does do is MIMO or Multimple In Multiple Out. It has three aeriels, for incoming and outgoing signals. If you use their PCMIA adapter with it you will get a remarkable increase.
You can also get signal repeaters. Now I dont work for Belkin but yet again they do a one, this device simply picks up your signal from router, and amplifies it.
We use this gear in schools that have metal walls and we get very good signals.
LASTLY have you thought of using a wired device such as ¨homeplug¨
Homeplug turns your internal electricity wires into a network, ie you use the electricity supply to network your house. Do a google for Homeplug.
