My computer is bieng attacked by constant pop ups. They appear constantly and are now making my pc unusable.
I have spybot and spywareblaster installed but they are not helping. I presume that somewhere in the computer a program has been installed But I cant find it. I found a couple of adware programs installed and got rid of them but this is becoming very frustrating now.

I desperately need HELP!

I already have the Google toolbar installed but the pop-ups appear even when not browsing.

I had this problem and went into the control panel on the computer.
Click start, control panel, performance and maintainance, administrative tools then services.
Scroll down until you find "messenger".
Right click on it and click on properties. Switch to disable.
Hope this helps

Sounds possibly like a "trojan" You've downloaded a program with this hidden away inside somewhere. You could try a different firewall? The one im using is agnitum outpost pro 2 about 7mb to download. This stops ads popping up all the time.

This should help if your getting the messages even when your not browsing.

I think Grav as the right idea here. It sounds like you are being hit by messages sent out using the Net Send command. Disabling the messanger service will stop them (as would a good firewall).

Thanks for the replys so far. I am now only getting them when my modem is plugged in, if I disconnect the usb link to the pc I dont get them anymore so thats part of it solved but I cant get rid of the rest.

I have a working copy of StopZilla if you want it. Just PM me with an email address and your O/S and I will send it to you.

have you got your firewall enabled? Windows messenger should be immune from spam from behind a firewall (unless of course you have a fixed IP address and the spammers have it :()

If disabling windows messenger fails to solve the problem then it's just possible you have some other messaging system installed.

By far the most common of these is called BackWeb and is used by some software and hardware suppliers as a means of notifying you of updates (or so they say). Logitech certainly use it.

seee this page

if it's on your system, there are simple instructions for removing it.

If you are using windoze have you got all the latest patches and security upgrades installed? these help to solve some of the problems.

Spyware Scanner

You could also try a free trial spyware scanner from Aurialsoftware
Aurial Software

Do the Options > Update before scanning. Although it may show some
false-positives, in my experience it shows up more than Spybot & Ad-aware.

Also, try removing the Googlebar and re-installing it. I suspect some spyware
will try to bypass/hy-jack the Googlebar settings. Whatever way you think spyware might get around your security, chances are the programmer thought of it first.

Happy cleaning.
