A number of us have been beating up the U.K. importer for Porter Cable and finally they have found a way to import the 110volt version (which is without a CE Mark) So thanks to all who have put pressue on them. Problem is it may still be cheaper to import from USA but at least there is now a UK option.

Below is the email I have just received.
So many of you have asked us about the Porter_Cable Random orbit polisher model no7424, that we can be heartless no more and are looking at the possibility of importing a number of these machines in on our next shipment due late august 2004.
What we are proposing to interested parties is supplying a 7424 (US spec no CE mark 110volt) with a UK spec Transformer and 14metre 110v extension lead for less then £229 inc Vat delivered to the UK mainland...

If you are interested please Email us by return... At this stage I am not accepting orders but when we know the demand we will fix a price and delivery date and recontact you with a firm proposal...
By the time we have a firm price I shall also hope to have some keen prices on the Polishing sponges...

For this price the unit will also be wired up and ready to go. Only issue is the pads and Rowland has said they will need to sell a complete package including pads which of course are the key bit that does the work so it may cost a little more.
So the options are now buy from the USA via Autopia

This option is still excellent "Aletank" has just bought the PC kit with 5 extra pads, loads of microfibre stuff all for £167 including the postage he will need to also get his transformer from Screwfix. So on balance it is still probably cheaper to import but some of us I know prefer security of dealing with a U.K. company.
OR go for the U.K. Option. The unit without the transformer will be about £170, but you will be dealing with the UK company and can claim your VAT back if it is a company purchase.
Rowland has asked me to put together a list of all those MBClub members who are interested. Please do a response to this thread so we can put a list together this may then influence the price.
His next shippment is coming in in mid August and if he can get between 30 to 50 people interested across the U.K. in this package he will go for it.
