Stupid question but, the different coloured pads for use on a Porter Cable. What colour do I use for what job or does it matter? 
The colour (and the range of colours varies by Brand) indicates the "cut" of the pads - there are different ones for cutting out swirls, for applying a polish and then for applying the wax.
Best to go the website of the maker of the pads you have....
