I think my clk may have developed a battery drain, The battery is not that old (appx 1-2 years) and has been fine until i noticed last week it felt a bit lethargic, went out this morning and it was as dead as a doornail.
Is there a cash friendly solution to finding a battery drain or is it likely to empty my wallet?

Thanks Tony.

Anyone? I did over 100 miles over last weekend only for this to happen 7 day's later surely that's not normal wear and tear of the battery?

Tony.

The usual method is to pull fuses one at a time and check for a current flow across the fuse holder contacts.

Hmm sound's like a job for a MB specialist i have to drive past Stevenson's MB specialist on my way to work think i will give him a bell to see what he has to say and weather he can book it in.
I do have a solar battery conditioner that i have plugged in today will leave it until Thursday evening and give it a try then when i have to pick up the wife from work thanks for the reply 190 much appreciated.

Tony.

This post http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/191403-w215-battery-drain.html goes into great detail trying to find the battery drain on a CL which may be of help.
If you manage to wade your way through you will see that you should never use the method of removing the fuses one by one as recommended by 190.

Wow...to be honest i don't understand any of that will see how the solar charger thingy work's (or not) and speak to an indy. Just read something about the alarm being a problem and to be honest i dont think i have ever heard mine go off how can i check it work's?

Thank's all.

Is there any chance your car had a tracker on it. Very commonly we find the older style tracker with the sealed lead acid backup battery causing this. The battery fails and the charge circuit keeps trying to charge it thus flattening the main battery. In all cases so far the owner was unaware of the tracker and not using it, so snip out the battery wires and insulate. The trick is finding the tracker ...

Good call Richard as you can see from above post i am not very mechanical minded would plugging it in to star offer any possibilities?
bearing in mind the car gets very little use while i am at work it may only get used once a week for a short trip of approximately 15-20 miles, The guy from kwik-fit checked the battery and charging system and reported all was fine...Just said i need to use it more:dk:

Quick update tried setting off the alarm tonight and nish...all lights (hazards working) but no audible siren is this likely to be the cause as i have read the internal batteries corrode pulling a drain or am i just clutching at straws?

Tony.

No it is a common cause of a drain

Have you heard any beeps on starting the car recently?

I was getting 4 beeps from somewhere around my feet on starting the CLK. I assumed it was the alarm siren warning of low internal battery power as car has just passed 10 year anniversary.

Replaced the siren (£99 from dealer) and startup beeps have ceased. (Now get beeps on arming/disarming instead, guess that comes with the change of siren part number.)

A new alarm siren comes with beeps, 3 beeps on arming and one beep when disarming except if you leave a door open when locking, then only 2 beeps sound.

I have a similar issue. My auto start stop now NEVER activates (turns green) MB said the battery was not charging because my employer has both a tracker/telematics device and a dash cam fitted, both permanent live...
:-/

My employer laughed and said 'nice try, pull the other one'
So, I will wait until they get hit with a nice big bill, maybe then they will think.

Dont remember hearing anything but i am a tad deaf and i usually start the car from outside just after opening the door i have sent an email to my local indy so we will see what happens now, Would be nice to have some audible arm and disarm noises at least that will show where the money has gone:D

Thanks all Tony.

Been quoted £99.60 for a new siren does this need to be coded on star or just plug and play? I can get it today @ Lookers Tonbridge?

Thanks Tony.

Siren A219 820 32 26 is a plug and play fit, no star coding required.

You will need a nut to mount it on the bracket - new ones have a different mounting to the original. N 000000 003175 Clamping nut, £0.62 + VAT. MB Ashford automatically added it to my siren order.

If you are fitting it yourself, my CLK had 2x T30 Security Torx machine screws fixing the bracket to the car (plus a 10mm hex nut) and a T40 Security Torx bolt holding the siren to the bracket. Siren and bracket are under wheel arch liner at rear of n/s front wheel arch.

Sorry to be a PITA but do i have to disconnect the battery when i fit the new one?

Tony.

No, just make sure everything off and key out of ignition.

Early 2000s WIS for siren replacement used to say disconnect battery, but in 2006 added a line to say battery disconnection not required.

Mine is 2004 still no disconnect?
