Hi,

I own a 350 SL (R230) 2006 model and have just updated the Comand APS Navigation for Europe from Version 5.0 to version 19.0.

Upon first use I was horrified to discover that the postcode search functionality has been compromised.

Upon selection of the Post Code option, one progresses through the entry of the first part of the post code. In version 5.0, the affirmation of pressing the 'OK' button would find the location (City / Town / Street etc..), whereupon one can begin the formal route search. However, this new version 19.0 proceeds through the entry of city / town, followed by street and then post code (AGAIN) before embarking on the formal route search.

So, it appears that for the sake of freshening up the maps I've lost the navigation by post code functionality.

The new DVD cost £156 and right now it feels like money not very well spent!

Is there a setting that needs to be applied, is this a bug or is it a deliberate functional 'upgrade'?

Your guidance will be very much appreciated.

Steve

Did the disc update Firmware as well?

Hi DSM10000,

Thank you for your prompt response.

I have no idea, as it was done by the installer of an Audio Upgrade that I commissioned. I hope to speak to them tomorrow, but was hoping to get some ideas from feedback here that may help prepare for my discussion with them.

The discs usually update Firmware when the new disc is loaded, If this does not complete correctly it can cause issues.

What version of COMAND is fitted to your vehicle?

There is a well respected company (Comand on Line Catalog ) who are experts in all things MB audio and Sat Nav.

Hi SteveStav,

- as I am one of the people at that installer, we have not had anyone complain about this (and we have updated loads....) but its perfectly possible no one else noticed as people don't tend to bother with post-codes as its only 5 digits - we can try some older disks for you and see how they behave.

- the nav processor firmware is updated by the update map disk - so yes you have the latest firmware.

- if anyone with a SL has this, it would be useful to know if this works on yours
- if anyone with an E class with this latest version is reading this , it would be useful to know if this works on yours too (same navigation processor, but head unit made by Becker rather than Siemens)

- there is a firmware update for the head unit (the display/buttons) for older NTG1 in S/SL/CL - but there is a significant risk that if the flash memory in the head-unit is failing it breaks when you install it - so we don't recommend installing that without an absolute reason to install it - which is normally issues with telephone compatibility. And replacement units are hard to come by and thus expensive.

We will of course not leave you in trouble on this !!!

Cheers
Richard

Thank you Richard. I look forward to talking with you or Andrew tomorrow. Oh, and thank you for a most excellent Audio Upgrade!

Glad you are enjoying the Audio. I am not in today, but I have briefed Mark W (who you will recognised) - I guess we will meet later in the week.
Thanks
Richard

I have a 2006 cls ntg1 with the v18 version disc installed. (also have a 350 sl with ntg1 but I have not checked that yet with the V18 disc)
When I start an entry with the 5 digit post code and press OK it comes up with the town for that post code. I can then enter the road name as usual.
I never use the postcode as its only 5 digits and can only ever get you to the town. Its so backward its a shame they cant update the system when they issue new discs. Even the cheapest cars manage full post code entry now.
