Now if you were in Caracas I would offer some Columbian tin bashers.
off thread, but....
Used to love Caracas, we went on honeymoon, a few days in the city, then out to the Macuto Sheraton (it got wrecked by a landslide a few years later) 😢 a terrible loss of lives in the favelas.
Then flew to Canaima for a few days, to do the “Flight of Angels” in a light aircraft at the falls, a dugout canoe ride across the red wine lake, (iron stains water red). Then back to Macuto to relax.
Lots of Polar. 🍻
Also saw Bryan Ferry in concert there, in a concert hall under a shopping mall? (Under something) then went clubbing with the band in a club called “Ritmo”
Its so sad what’s happened to the economy there. Hope it all improves one day. :thumb:

JESUS CHRIST Spanner thats one hell of a list of activities for a Ruislip boy, WTF did you do on the second day ????

Dobey you are abso bloody lutely right chap, My insurance company is taking the necessary legal steps to get their money and my 500 excess back from them, it helps that the police were involved because they confirmed the highways dept were outside the two week window they have on major A roads (Oh yes it is) and ordered them to come out and repair it that night !!! they had attended another damaged vehicle and reported it two weeks before. I would praise our local plod for that BUT they took longer to arrive than the recovery team that my insurance company booked and so did the bloody ambo!
Bloody ambulances, and they have absolutely nothing else to do at the moment than attend uninjured motorists.

Fortunately ours dont but us thick country people are disciplined enough to adhere to covid rules so our hospital is not overloaded like some of the sophisticated big towns where morons protesting and having parties ignore rules and suffer the consequences, oh and we dont wander the streets shooting & stabbing each other for giggles, amazing how that keeps the pressure off A & E, only three people in there when I arrived to get the bad gash in my arm stitched ;)

Yes off the thread but its nice to read about something positive about Venezuela.
I went there in the late 1970's with Leyland Bus supporting a contract & fell in love with the place.
After the Thatcher years of 1988 and the loss of thousands of jobs, & unemployed, I ended up in Caracas getting a contract with the Jaime Lusinchi /Carlos Andres Peres Gov & Metro de Caracas .
Becoming a Venezuelan citizen I ended up owning a bus build plant (which I still own) and at one time employing 135 mechanics .painters and bus body constructors.
I go down there usually twice a year from Denver to check on things and make sure the wheels still keep turning albeit slowly, with some US Dollar "lubrication"..

You mentioned the Macuto Sheraton & the area includes Naiguata & its beaches.
Yes I remember the disaster and a slightly smaller one when Harry the scouser bus mechanic used a Leyland's senior director's red Range Rover that was washed out to sea when the heavens opened up!
All trying to impress a local hot female from Parque Central in a Range Rover ..
OMG did that cause a ruckus!
Strangely nowadays my two eldest kids were born in Caracas, my eldest is a pediatric surgeon in Houston & the other work for an American corporation based in Central London of all places & hooked up with a nice Chica better half from Latvia.
Life & outcomes are strange at times !
Cheers

It is off topic and we may get a slap but that is fantastic TV, those thatcher years were brutal for many and you certainly picked up the ball and ran with it, and what a climate to run to, I holidayed on the Yucatan peninsula for two weeks and wanted to stay forever, as I write this we are under four inches of snow, wish I could be there now best regards Steve

No slaps for OPs when they're happy to go off their own topic. Sorry to disappoint you 😉

Staying off topic in Venezuela, the posts here remind me of when I did the “Flight of Angels” then after tracking the area for a couple of days went down to the Orinoco Delta to do a bit of piranha fishing from a dugout canoe then a rainforest exploration including sampling raw grubs (yummy).

Back on topic. Delighted you’re ok, so sad about your car. My bestie came off lightly by comparison in his BMW 330i when he hit a pothole on the A1 near Stamford. Just two wrecked wheels. It took Highways England several months to pay out, during which time his car was off the road. I hope you get sorted a lot faster.

Thank you Fella and to conclude, I am sorted already, LV insurance accepted my valuation of £6500 including the £11000 of options fitted when new and Full service history with photos of condition, I agreed to buy it back for 500 paid excess of 450 and got a bank transfer of 4600 this morning (excess should come back once council pays up) cant fault that for service, sorry for your friend though, do you know Lincs paid out £1.2 mill for pot hole claims last year and that only covered the 8% of claims that were successfull, the rest got knocked back !

I am beginning to think I am the only one who has not been to bloody Venezuela, I must live under a rock or something:(

Yes they were brutal alright !
Some were just devastated when they were made redundant.
One of my colleagues, "Frank J" never really recovered and drank himself into an early grave!
I concluded it was time to re-assess working for a corporation, & flying the flag on exports.
Having a friend who was airframe fitter for KLM ,I hoped I could scrounge a complementary flight which is a company bene.
In the ultimo he found me a seat on an empty Viasa Airbus going back to Caracas after a refit . It flew to Rome ,picked up cargo then up to Milan, did the same then hopped across the Atlantic to Maiquettia .
From that point on of taking a hopper from Blackpool airport really there was no going back, and failure was not in my vision.
The Vens made me work for the contract!
I had to get at least 80 names, signatures and cedula (I/D card) numbers on a sheet of paper promising to work for me.
I simply started roaming the bars & sleazy hangouts in Caracas looking for old work colleagues.
Again the lucky break! I was recognized by an old machinist friend who sent me down to a whore house on Avenida Baralt. This was Edgar's (an old friend) bolt hole!
(who luckily turned out to be my valuable point man on the recruitment drive taking the bus to all points across Venezuela. )
His girlfriend was the madam running the joint and answered the knock on the door! Out of the peep hole hatch came the shrill voice Quien Es? . I replied "Es El Ingles- La Pirata!

Curious! Where did you go in the Yucatan ?
I went down there last year looking for parts for a Hyundai medium duty truck. (nothing available in the US) .
Its short flight from Denver to Cancun.
I hired a taxi driver for $200 per day out of Tulum to scoot me about all the grubby workshops & dealers I had contacted in Cancun, & Merida .
I have a holiday hideaway I go to occasionally away from all the tourist crowds ,its called Puerto Morelos, known mostly by local Mexican nationals for relaxation & only an hour from Cancun airport.

Out of interest, what are you planning to do with the car now? Fix it? Break it up for spares? Sell it?

It will be worth a small fortune in parts, I think.....

Its all parts Mark I bought it as a cat S in 2015 and I think one rebuild is probably enough eh? although its on 110k miles it has a full Merc and Merc specialist service history and engine pulls like a train and returns 45mpg so thats got to be worth something, good thing is it can still be driven to road test mechanicles

I have seen Venezuela from the coast of Trinidad and once worked in a factory in Swindon with a bloke from Venezuela called Carlos. Does that count ?

Carlos tried to get everyone to drink coffee like he did, with a block of cheese in the bottom of the cup.
Not even sure where to start with this ? CHEESE in coffee ??? WT actual F, was he on crack??

Great to hear that you got everything sorted so quickly. Also reassuring to hear that it was LV who did their stuff, because that's who I've been with for years. Thankfully I've only had to use them once for a claim and they were excellent.

With Lincolnshire alone paying out £1.2m in claims in a year, it makes you wonder if it would be cheaper for them to sort out the potholes before they caused the damage.

How's your arm and bruises? I hope they makes a speedy recovery too.
