I was in Ely the other day and parked next to some Ssangyong short wheelbase 4x4 . The thing had black painted logo's on the sides and the rear about 10 cm high - a 3 pointed star and the words underneath "powered by mercedes" . Now I know these things have mercedes engine technology but I think this devalues the mercedes marque and doesn't do alot for the ssangyong. WTF are they thinking in Stuttgart?

I always thought that was something the owners of them had done themselves?

Look at forklifts and cold transport containers ..... powered by Mercedes.

Selling an engine doesnt mean they sold the farm.

Yup they use the old straight six motors and are all the better for it!
WTF are they thinking in Stuttgart?

Money, money, money,------ loads a money!

Yes , they have the M104 .

Don't know if they have solved the wiring harness problems ?

TATA have a partnership or did have some sort of deal with Mercedes back in the 90s and they would under license make the old T Servies vans that the Sprinter replaced and T124 estates (they looked very similar/identical in design and apperance) but instead of having the 3 pointed Star the badges were replaced with the TATA badge (which is a circle with a T in the middle) and looks a little similar to the MB 3 pointed start with the circle.

Dont think there was any real problem with the design or routing of the wiring just the type of insulation ( meant to biodegrade in landfill sites after the car was scrapped not in the car during its life time!!!) I have a horrible suspicion that the insulation was made by LUCAS:eek:  but dont know this for sure. only effected 94-96 ish cars I think?? I'm sure the crude "environmentally challenged" insulation on the Korean cars will last much better.;)

Well if they use the engines...

Marques always seem to like telling us they have used components from percieved better marques - handling by Lotus, Porsche braking, Cosworth engines etc.

I'm sure they was a Seat that had some Posche claim to faim on a decal on the side of it..... I'm sure Porsche must have agreed to it, but you wonder why....

Porsche did indeed design the engines for the early Seat Ibiza's. The cars had a decal on the rear window saying 'Designed by Porsche' and the rocker box cover have Porsche forged into it.

I have some LaCie USB disks here that also say 'Designed by Porsche' on them!

T Series Vans were exact carbon copies!!! I never said that the pickup was 124 based but I have seen for myself in person a T124 estate with TATA badges and other estates that looked very similar to the T124...

Aye I know that you never said the pickup, but if you look at the estate you can see that its front is shorter than a 124's

I think the decal was "System Porsche" IIRC - must have impressed me to have remembered so long!!
