Powering a Dash Cam

Hi All,

New here so apologies if this is in the wrong place!

I’ve fitted a Nextbase dash cam to my 67’ plate E220d, I used the Nextbase power cable and took power from the fuse box near the drivers door and used a blade fuse adapter to take power from an existing 5a fuse.

It all works fine other than it’s on all the time which isn’t ideal, I’ve had my meter on the 5, 7.5 and 15a fuses on this box and they all seem to remain powered when the ignition is off.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can easily get ignition only power?

Thanks in advance!

Isn't there a fuse box in the left foot well too? That's where I got my power from for my GLC. My C220 2015 plate has the same fuses on the left.

I used the fuse box on the drivers (right hand) side, but I’ll have a look at the left side tomorrow!

Try the 12v socket fuse, should be ignition only? Also, be aware that some circuits appear lto be permanent live after the ignition is turned off but may be shutdown after a few minutes by the ECU, unlocking the car and / or opening a door may re-activate some.

Crikey didn’t think of that! If I lock the car should that turn them off?

It will if they are ECU controlled circuits but it can take some time, the cigerette lighter / 12v ower socket is normally ignition controlled though so it should be a safe and eliable pick up for switched power.

I use an OBD port power lead.

This has a switch to allow either ignition controlled or permanent live.
