Thought I'd take the car out this morning for a spin and quick check over before its MoT tomorrow as I only used it once in the last 6 moth (long, separate story)

All was good except the windscreen washer jets weren't working. Mmm - this will be an MoT fail tomorrow

Bottle full - check
Disconnect hoses - seem clear.
Blow air through nozzles - all good.

Check I can hear motor running when stalk pressed - mmm, no noise

Panic - this could be expensive

Check fuses etc - all ok

when in doubt, return to manual for any tips

Argh - I'd forgotten the stalk requires a double / deep press to activate the washers - the first stage merely activates the flick wipe...

All good

Panic over

My first Merc was a 1968 280S, being keen I wanted everything to work on the car, boot light not working, hmm, spent hours tracing wiring, cleaning multipin plugs until I checked wiring diagram more thoroughly to find boot light only worked when side lights switched on.

doh! Lesson learnt

Had a similar issue with wipers not working on our Caddy Va. It turned out the bonnet hadn't latched correctly and this resulted in the wipers being deactivated :-)

My Ponton faild the MOT last year, windscreen washers. Did knot how to work the foot operated washers, showed him and it passed.
Had a similar issue with our S70 - the headlights were by default in DRL mode with dipped beam coming on automatically. They failed it, changed the setting, passed it and went back to the original setting.
