hi

i have put down a £200 deposit on a pre-facelift 1999 T reg convertable which is £20,000.

Unfortunatly i found this forum after that. Is it worth holding out for a facelift model of the CLK (ie 2000 etc) or are the differences very little.

Does the facelift model come with more gagits etc? I know it has different bumpers, indicator wing mirrors etc, but what are the functions on the steering wheel for, and can these be easily retrofitted to a pre-facelift?

I suppose i have until friday to pull out the deal but loose my deposit....

Derek

The main differences are:

(a) the multi function steering wheel and the trip computer;
(b) the auto has the sideways + and - shift unlike the PRND4321 of the pre face lift
(c) partial electric seats as standard
(d) as you said, mirrors, bumpers etc etc

£20k sounds high for T reg CLK 320.

it was £19995. but this includes a years full parts & labour warrenty with any Mercedes & Mitubishi dealer

and they gave me £1000 for my old M reg banger of a renault 19 which wanst worth £200.

cant find many cheaper in the autotrader on a nationwide search.... a couple but probably these have quite high milage. there seems to be T 1999 for 20k to £21k on autotrdader......

the car is in mint condition.

You will pay the price for a decent one, esp now its the time for them. Saw 3 with hoods down this morning!
Mileage isnt an issue as long as its under the ton mark. These engines are great. Just look at the car in general and its histrory.
The facelift stuff is nice, but certainly not essential. I drive both a facelift E class with the multifunction wheel and my CLK. I never use the buttons on the wheel.
I wouldnt reject a nice clk based on pre or post facelift. its hard enough to find a nice one as it is.

then buy it, enjoy it, and love it!! And don't loose the £200. The 1 year MB warranty is worth having.

yeah thats what i have found. i have been trawling the autotrader for a few months to find a good un. mainly to get the spec i wanted too. this one has eveyrthing i wanted apart from climate control and trip which i now know only came on the facelift models.

There is a T reg 1999 cabrio on autotrader for £16k with 100k+ miles on it... but it has to be cheap for a reason. i saw a V reg pre-facelift completely rusted pillars etc for £17k which i test drove and although it drived ok, it was in tatty condition.

I suppose if i count the £1000 they gave me for the Renault 19 (which was my sister in laws) i got a grand off as it was about to blow up and was knackered (would have been scrapped in 6 months).

I would probably want to upgrade the stereo anyway so the controls on the wheel would be useless anyway... but i am thinking about the "command" that is so popular on here.... i will wait until i get the car and look into that!

I think £20k is overpriced sorry. I had a W reg CLK320 which I sold several years ago for £26k.

Clarky.

I guess it depends where you want to go for it, and how fussy you are. I'd personally buy from auction for a model at that price, and go for getting more for my buck. The car I sold had pretty much everything on it (including COMAND etc) - it was a facelift car - except for the AMG body kit & telephone.

Just my thoughts - but checkout British Car Auctions if you fancy seeing if you can get one for a decent price.

One other thought, the best website for 2nd hand cars bar none is www.motortrak.com - they have everything from all dealers. Its the industry source for this data. I've brought cars from this site which hadn't even appeared on the normal sites.

Check it out.

Dont worry mate. You havent paid too much! I myslef looked at loads before i bought mine. There are just no good ones in the country for less than that. You have to sacrifice to condition or mileages of over 150K. Anyone who says differently has lower standards or hasnt physically gone out and looked at any.
I saw an X reg for £18k but it was abused so much - i was disgusted the owner described it as in good condition. Lots of examples like that.

Buy one thats mint, youll be much happier. And if you keep it mint, youll get more than average for it in the future.

Sounds like you have done the research and cannot find a better deal for a mint car with the options you want so go for it. Will be great for the summer.

Cool go 4 it. Its a lovely car for the summer, and very practical all year round.

Don't forget to post pic's of the chosen model !
