I have a pathological mistrust of car mechanics

There. I said it.

Having recently bought a S210 E320 petrol for the Mrs, I desperately wanted to know weather it was a 'keeper' and if so, what all might need fixing, so i could prioritise repairs etc.

Seeing what everyone on this forum says about them, i though i'd take a leap of faith... and gave Olly at Prestige Car Service a call.

We set a date and i took the car down to Olly and Jack at horndean for a once over, about a fortnight ago.
Both Olly and Jack came over and introduced themselves and Jack first took my car for a test drive and then got it up on the hoist for a nosey.

What a breadth of fresh air!
Here was someone who instinctively new his way around the car and SHOWED me every little thing... taking his time to explain the problems, symptoms, severity and solution to each item and patiently answering all my questions along the way.

We then compiled a list of defects and prioritised them in order of severity/ urgency.

i booked in with them, and made the 300 mile round trip to them on friday.

When i got there, i realised they had cleared their schedules to make room for me!
So I basically spent all day watching, asking questions and generally irritating them while they bit by bit, sorted all the car's niggles out!!!

Olly and Jack were awesome!

here's the bigger stuff htey tackled on the day-

Rear Diff Seals (leaking)
-diff removed, cleaned inspected, all seals changed and re-filled.

Rear Brake Hoses perished
- renewed. Brake fluid replaced/ brakes bled.

Right Rear spring broken.
- pair changed

Rear subframe bushes (front) aged.
- changed

OSR trunion bush wasted.
-replaced.

Fuel Filter
-changed.

Spark Plugs
-changed.

ATF
-fluid drained, sump opened, inspected and cleaned. filter and seals changed. flushed and replenished.

AC
-recharged with dye'd gas.

Front anti roll bar links aged.
- replaced

Front wheel bearings.
- removed, inspected, re-greased and re-adjusted.

Thanks Olly & Jack, the car is running beautifully!

Me too-Unless in an emergency, I wouldn not use/trust anyone else.

100 %. I did post a thank you to Olly, Jack and Matt last week, after they gave the CL an "A" service and changed the Plugs on the CL and checked the car over, as mentioned above a first class job and at a very competitive price.

When my car was in York MB due to the inlet port motor problem they told me I had some serious suspension problems that they would do for me if I wanted. I declined.

When at the GTG Olly changed my ATF - looked at the suspension and told me that it had some slight wear but nothing that was serious and definately didn't need doing yet.

Then he pointed out the noise from the bottom end. This was completely missed by MB York...

So I recommend Olly thoroughly.

I am another fan of Olly and Jack. They sorted out the 124 brilliantly. lots of jobs - some quite major. Quick list from memory. Full service, ATF change, head gasket, self levelling valve, rear brake pipes, rear suspension/differential bushes, anti roll bar links, changed steering wheel over, and a few other little things. It now feels like drivng a new car. All done at a very reasonable price.

If Carlsberg did Mercedes workshops - this is almost what they would be like.
PCS is, in my view even better.

I only needed a few small jobs doing and as usual it was a pleasure to watch the guys work and and to pay the relatively small bill.

P.S - Jack, many thanks for noticing the worn ARB bushes - I really notice the difference with the new ones.

Thanks very much gents. We work so hard week in and week out that the positive feedback that we get means that it is all worthwhile. The early mornings, late nights and stress is worth it.

Sometimes my wallet would like them to be less observant, but if it needs doing, it needs doing, and I have always been happy with the results.

So starting with the opening statement of this thread - it is difficult to trust people you trade with and it can be even more complex with cars.

When it comes to "Service" I absolutely struggle to trust any dealership. I have a great relationship with the sales/after sales teams. So as my car approaches the end of it's warranty I needed to get some idea of any issues, making any claims on it etc. Thanks to Olly's attention to detail and time to looking it over for me, it was very helpful.

True gentlemen, Olly, a shame about the distance for me, but despite that you'll still be seeing me again.
