Just received a nice letter from Privilege stating that as I had not produced any evidence on my no claims bonus, it had been withdrawn and I had to pay £416 to them.

A phone call revealed what had happened...

When I bought the M3 the online new policy price was £400 cheaper than the straight vehicle change cost.

No brainer! I cancel the old policy and take up a new one.

There's been a change of vehicle since to my C220.

It transpires that they do not automatically move your NCD over to the new policy.

At the time, I was assured that all would be fine and it would be moved over...

Having had my trip to Mitcheldean, and a rather nice steak pie at the Farmers Boy pub canceled, I was not in the mood for any of this.

Policy fixed, pie rescheduled! ;)

But I though all the details of NCB were on the Insurance Computer data which they all share. I've NEVER been asked to produce proof of my NCB! and I've changed companies many times.

Same with direct line (associated company)

They have just sent me a letter saying they are going to increase my premium by £650 if I don't answer their letter within 10 days, blah blah...

They already have a copy of my max no-claims entitlement from Zurich no less (big enough insurance company?)

Now they have written to me saying they cannot accept it as my last insurance expired in July 2006 (I thought they carry over the no-claims for up to 2 years and maybe you "lose" a year's entitlement after a year has lapsed, etc...)

So now I have written to them saying that I had a company car between April 2006 and Oct 2007 so we'll see what they have to say...

When I took out the insurance I was told they will "probably apply my bonus" to a second car (hopefully CL55, SL500 or equivalent, yippee, I'll need the bonus on that!)

Amazing really, the lengths I am having to go to to prove my entitlement when no doubt they can find out easily enough...

Thieves.....

when ever i renew if its with a new company they have always asked for proof on no claims except NORWICH UNION at the time, who said that the proof is only need if i was involved in a claim:confused: (also same with a copy of my licence) so if you tell lies about your ncb your policy would of been void if claimed on but if you dont claim you got away with it  (this is how the person explained to me over the phone at the time about the situation ) regards jon

We've always been asked for a letter from previous insurer.

Anyhows - NCD is just a discount marketing scam^h^heme these days. A driver can end up with a higher NCD in years than they have been driving and it is usually transferable.

Whats an M3 ?????? :D :D :D

I think its one of those that gave you a good hiding last year:p

Sheila's Wheels

Now, being a girl I chose to insure my 124 through Sheila's as I thought Ford Insure wouldn't insure it. They wanted proof of the NCD within 10 days or the premium would go up.

Think it must general practice - although I too, thought they had access to a mass database containing such info.

And no, I don't drive filing my nails and singing that g*d awful ditty on the advert! :D

Just got a renewal notice through for the E Class today, and it was twice the cost of last year!
Ran a check on confused.com and was offered a number of quotes at about the same level as last year.
Phoned the insurers who said ' ah yes, we have not had the cheque clear from the third parties insurer from your accident in the summer'
So my account still has an outstanding 'claim' against it despite that it was very much 'no fault' (Truck backs into your stationary car) and that it was 5 months ago.
The upshot is now that they will ensure the money comes in from the third party and will match any quote I get on line.:D

Why do you always have to check??!

Yep, same with me with Privilege. My last renewal for my previous car was June, I took out a new policy for a new vehicle in August and sent the renewal notice. They said that it wasn't valid as 2 months had passed and I could have had a claim since and not told them about it. I told them that I could have done loads of things and not told them but all fell on deaf ears.
I ended up having to contact my previous insurers numerous times to get them to send me a NCD confirmation and passed that on to Privilege after numerous warning letters and phone calls. I guess the postal strike never helped but I still haven't heard back from them.

I think you will find that there is not a No Claims Bonus as no-one pays me anything --- its called a no claims discount.......

Pedantic moi ?

Similar situation when someone went into the wife's car not too long before the renewal, had to renew with 2 years less non-claims and was promised a refund when claim was cleared. Several months later I remembered I hadn't received a refund, so phoned them and they put the cheque in post - seem like they were hoping I'd forget?
